The Asian Literary Festival, themed “Monsoon Relatives,” will be hosted at Eugenia Park, Nairobi, Kenya, from May 28 – 30, 2026.

The festival was founded by Pramudith D. Rupasinghe, a Sri Lankan novelist, CEO of The Asian Group of Literature, and laureate of the Golden Aster Prize for World Literature in 2020 for his work Bayan. It aims to make literature accessible beyond elite circles, treating it as “a public right” rather than a privilege; to use storytelling as a bridge between cultures and continents; and to create a platform where Asian voices connect with other global literary communities. The festival made its world debut in Brussels, Belgium, from October 3–5, 2025, before travelling to Gampaha, Sri Lanka, from March 6–8, 2026.

Nairobi will experience the Asian Literary Festival under the curation of Kenyan writer Alexander Nderitu during the last weekend of May. The event, which aims to revive cultural ties between Asia and Africa, will feature more than 100 authors from Kenya and abroad. Programming will include book launches, panel discussions, poetry and music performances, theatre, art installations, children’s activities, and prize ceremonies.
