African art at its best🤩. These Kuba figurines are idealized and styled depictions of deceased Bushoong leaders. The figures were curved during the reign of each leader and served as the kings double during his presence. The scarification amongst the kuba people was made up of different shapes which, when combined in different ways, created different meanings. Through scarification, meaning is invested in the body thus preserving cultural memory.
