Race walking has a proud history in Kenya, and we must work together to restore its strength.

I addressed the Race Walking Symposium at Nyayo National Stadium, where I challenged coaches, judges and athletes to embrace change, strengthen competition and create better pathways for our race walkers.

We must also be clear about integrity. Doping and age manipulation have no place in Kenyan sport. We must educate, prevent and act early to protect athletes and the reputation of our nation.

Our collaboration with the AIU, ADAK, WADA and the Government is important as Kenya continues strengthening clean-sport systems. But the responsibility does not stop with institutions. Coaches, parents, officials and athletes must all play their part.

Our race-walking tradition is rich. Now we must protect it, invest in it and ensure the next generation succeeds cleanly and proudly.

It was a pleasure to welcome World Athletics Head of Competition Management Pierce O'Callaghan to Nairobi as we begin the detailed preparations for the first World Athletics Championships on African soil.

We thank World Athletics for believing in Kenya and entrusting us with this historic responsibility. The bid is behind us; now the work begins. With the support of World Athletics, the Ministry of Sports, Athletics Kenya and all our partners, we are committed to delivering a championship that reflects the excellence, hospitality and spirit of Kenya.

The Nairobi 2029 preparations continue at pace.

After engagements at Kasarani stadium, Nyayo stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex, and a visit to Talanta Plaza to meet Sports PS Elijah Mwangi and Riadha House tour, the next delegation stop is Bomas of Kenya, with Talanta Stadium next.

Together with World Athletics Competition Director Pierce O’Callaghan, we are taking a close look at our facilities and readiness as we work towards hosting a successful World Athletics Championships in 2029.

The work is underway, and the standards must remain high.

Winning the bid was a proud moment for Kenya. Now, the real work begins.

Today, I joined the Athletics Kenya President Lt Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, 2029 Bid Committee Chair Ibrahim Hussein Kipkemboi, Sports Kenya Director General Timothy Kilimo, AK Chief Administrative Officer Susan Kamau, Competition Director Kennedy Tanui and other stakeholders at Kasarani for a tour of the stadium and discussions on preparations for Nairobi 2029.

With Kasarani undergoing major works ahead of AFCON 2027, early coordination is important to ensure the needs of athletics are incorporated as we look towards 2029.

As Ibrahim Hussein Kipkemboi, who chaired the Bid Committee put it: winning the bid was one examination; delivering the championship will be another.

And that delivery will require all of us to work together.

Athletics Kenya, government, NOC-K, Sports Kenya, World Athletics, the private sector and other partners have a shared responsibility to deliver a championship that Kenya and Africa can be proud of.

The bid has been won. Now, the work begins.

Clean sport is not optional. It is fundamental to the future of .

Today, together with the NOCK- Olympics Kenya Executive Board, we engaged with the leadership of the Anti-Doping Agency of KENYA (ADAK), led by CEO Peninah Wahome and members of the ADAK Board.

Our conversation was centred on strengthening cooperation in protecting athletes, promoting clean competition and building a culture of integrity across Kenyan sport.

We also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit to Kenya by the President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the programme of activities planned around the visit.

As we prepare our athletes for major international competitions, we must ensure that performance is built on hard work, discipline and integrity.

Our athletes deserve a sporting environment where they are protected, properly educated and given every opportunity to compete fairly.

Clean sport. Athlete protection. Integrity.

These must remain at the heart of Team Kenya.

We are working towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games by strengthening partnerships that will provide greater support for Team Kenya and our athletes.

Today, I engaged with SportPesa Head of Partnership and Sponsorship Japheth Akhulia, who paid a courtesy call at NOC-K Headquarters.

Our discussions centred on exploring opportunities for collaboration between NOC-K and SportPesa, with a focus on supporting Team Kenya’s preparations and the journey towards LA28.

As we move closer to the Games, we continue to seek and build strategic partnerships that can strengthen our athletes’ preparation, enhance their support systems and contribute to Kenya’s sporting success on the international stage.
