BREAKING NEWS
Christian Eriksen returns to the Premier League just seven months after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at Euro 2020; midfielder released by Inter Milan last month because Italian rules do not allow someone to play with an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator)
Christian Eriksen has signed for Brentford on a six-month deal, making a remarkable return to the Premier League just seven months after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Eriksen left Inter Milan in December by mutual consent after being suspended by the Italian medical authority from playing in Serie A due to a rule prohibiting the use of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device he has had fitted.
The 29-year-old had the ICD fitted after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 match against Finland in Copenhagen. He has completed all the necessary medical checks and is fit to return to football.

Paul Pogba issues Cristiano Ronaldo 'demand' to Man Utd during contract standoff
Paul Pogba has reportedly demanded Manchester United make him their top earner - but his hopes of a lucrative new deal which will take him beyond Cristiano Ronaldo have been set back by injury.
The midfielder, 28, is out of contract next summer and he is embroiled in a lengthy stalemate with the Old Trafford hierarchy over extending his stay.
We understand United chiefs want to resolve the situation before the January transfer window, when Pogba will be free to enter talks with foreign clubs.
The Frenchman has been intensely criticised since he was shown a straight red card just 15 minutes after coming off the bench in the 5-0 defeat by Liverpool.
A source close to the player told L'Equipe he will agree to new terms so long as these make him the highest earner in the Premier League.

Leicester City are the frontrunners in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.
Lingard scored his first Old Trafford goal in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Newcastle after defying reports to remain at Manchester United for the coming season.
Interest in Lingard has not subsided, however, and the Foxes remain interested in signing the 28-year-old next summer.

Messi has been a free agent since the start of this month after his existing contract expired.
The Argentinian looks set to hand president Joan Laporta a huge boost by agreeing to a 50 per cent wage cut.
A number of sources claim that the 34-year-old has agreed to the reduction in wages and will sign a five-year deal.
It is suggested that an official confirmation is imminent and that only bureaucracy is stopping an announcement.

MAN UTD HOLD POSITIVE VARANE TALKS
Manchester United have held positive talks with the representatives of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
United were given permission to speak to Varane’s camp; nothing has been agreed, but personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
United have yet to speak to Real Madrid directly – but are expected to once they have an agreement with Varane.
United remain cautious as they are wary of being used to get Varane a new contract at Real.
Varane’s current deal is up next summer and United are aware they can sign him on a pre-contract in January.

ZIYECH, CHILWELL OUT; SILVA DOUBT FOR CHELSEA
Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard says new signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell will miss Monday's match against Brighton, while Thiago Silva is unlikely to play.
The Blues start their Premier League season away to the Seagulls on Monday Night Football - live on Sky Sports - but Lampard is set to be without several of his new arrivals.
Attacking midfielder Ziyech and left-back Chilwell will not be fit enough to feature, while Brazil defender Silva is not yet training with the rest of the first team.
"Hakim Ziyech took an injury to a knee against Brighton so won't be fit. Hopefully it's a matter of weeks, a couple of weeks but we have to see," Lampard said at Thursday's press conference. "Ben Chilwell is working towards fitness and improved this week. He's going in the right direction but won't be ready for Brighton

LIVERPOOL HOLD POSITIVE TALKS WITH WIJNALDUM
Georginio Wijnaldum has held positive talks with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over his future at Anfield.
The pair held a meeting on Wednesday concerning the prospect of him staying with the Reds. Wijnaldum has one year remaining on his current deal but talks over extending his contract have yet to take place.
The Netherlands central midfielder has been tipped to link up with his former national team manager Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, with the duo having worked closely together at international level.
Wijnaldum wants to stay at Liverpool and hopes an offer of a contract extension from the club will be the result of a productive conversation with his manager, who is keen for him to stay.
