Intuition. Gut Feeling. Inner guide. Whatever you want to call it, we have all been there. We had this feeling and it led us in the right direction or we had this feeling and we didn't listen to it regrettably. I'm going to call it intuition. Intuition is a tricky thing. It's like swimming in a lake clouded with sediments and you're not able to see the bottom where your feet touch. Our lives are full of "sediments," visible and invisible to us. There are expectations known or unknown to us from society, family, co-workers, and ourselves. There are overt and covert rules that we follow. There are daily habits and routines. There are patterns of behavior and thinking that we fall back upon to save energy. Not saying any of this is bad or good, only that it can sometimes veil our intuition. To bring it back to the metaphor: the murky lake water makes the ground we stand on invisible, making us weary and uncomfortable of what our feet are touching. If you've ever stood in a murky lake you can relate! This is where tools like meditation or body-centered movements can guide us toward what each of us knows to be true for ourselves within. Being with the body allows us to swim past all of which may cloud our intuition and arrive at that inner guide with confidence and clarity. Intuition is like a muscle the more we use it the stronger it gets. It also takes courage to follow it and the more we follow it the more we can trust it will lead us on the right path.
