COACH BARNU hockey

The Nakuru High Open Tournament was a fantastic experience to our development team. The boys had fun and showed some small but significant improvement during their matches. They played a total of six matches. Won 3, drawn 1 and lost 2 matches. This gave us a podium finish of 3rd position after being eliminated at the semifinals by a university side. We had our youngest player Maina(12years old) play and even scored a goal. We are indeed proud of our boys for their impressive performance.

We look forward to more tournaments, friendlies and league matches to expose this determined group to more high level hockey.

Thank you all for your support and even thoughts of goodwill towards the team. To the tournament sponsors and the coaches, we are forever grateful.

I can perceive it, I can see it coming, it's near and it's going to be magnificent. Change is fast approaching and it's inevitable. Brace yourselves and watch this space for glorious things that are about to manifest.

This weekend, Nakuru shall be treated to an Opens hockey tournament at Nakuru Girls School. This was once a prestigious tournament back in the days, that attracted most schools from the Rift Valley, Central and Western regions. It became an annual tournament loved by many schools as it offered stiff competition in preparation for the KSSA championships.

The glory days, over the years, of this tournament faded off a little as many other schools and regions commenced organizing their own tournaments. However, all was not lost as this tournament withstood the tides of time to continue being hosted annually. Though slowly, its glory days are coming back.

Welcome this weekend of the 18th and 19th January, 2025 at the Nakuru Girls for the annual Nakuru High Open Tournament where the Nakuru Academy team and affiliated secondary schools will be participating.

Our weekend academy trainings are commencing this weekend on the Saturday 4:30 to 6pm and Sunday 3 to 5pm for the ages 12 to 18 years, Nakuru County. Send us your kids who are aspiring hockey players for a transformative experience. Most welcome.

It's been a quiet 2024 on this page. However, the work on the ground never stopped. We are happy that hockey development in Nakuru has continued to make small but significant steps. For the first time we successfully held the August holiday camp.

We keep on this year as we look forward to break the limitations and soar even higher. This year we shall be having academy trainings (U18, U14 boys and girls) every Saturday 4:30 to 6:30pm and Sundays 2:30 to 5pm at Sikh Temple near Menengai High School. Reccommend us to all young and aspiring hockey players within Nakuru of ages 10-18 years for a transforming experience. Thank you to all that support the journey.

I have for the past been thinking from whence to start this change, and I came to the realization that it really STARTS WITH ME. I am the one that needs to first change: of my mentality, the normal way of engaging in hockey issues, on the pitch as a player, as a coach, e.t.c
IT STARTS WITH ME and am on the road to change myself and then ONE PERSON AT A TIME.

Therefore, the question for us would be, where can we initiate or begin to make changes that will transform our Kenyan hockey? Because everyone at the moment wants changes, but WHERE DO WE START?
Top-bottom, bottom-top, Union first then clubs or clubs first then union, team first then individuals or individuals first then team, sponsors first then union/clubs or vice versa, senior team or junior team or is it a combination of all these?
