Calling all swimmer parents & friends in Kenya 🏊‍♀️

Help me spread the word please 🙏
We’ll be in Kenya during the summer break (July) and I’m looking for good competitive swimming clubs/training programs for my daughters to join temporarily.

They’re passionate competitive swimmers and would love to keep training while away from home. Looking for a positive environment with strong coaching and serious training culture.

Would really appreciate any recommendations, tags, or shares. Thank you so much.

What happened in Kilifi this weekend was bigger than just a swimming competition — it was a statement that Kenyan swimming is growing, and the future is bright.

Kiambu Aquatics proudly congratulates Kilifi Aquatics for organizing a successful and memorable inaugural Kilifi Aquatics Long Course Swimming Championship held at Kilifi International School. The event brought together swimmers from different parts of the country, with huge representation from the Coast region, and the energy, talent, and organization on display were truly impressive.

Special appreciation goes to the Kiambu Aquatics leadership team — Dr. Douglas Okatso, Monica Githinji and Competition Secretary Shadrack Mutiso — for making the journey to Kilifi and standing alongside the organizers to support the smooth running of the championship. Your commitment to the growth of the sport does not go unnoticed.

What Kilifi Aquatics has started is exactly what Kenyan swimming needs. Creating platforms where young swimmers can compete, be seen, gain confidence, and dream bigger is how champions are made. Many of tomorrow’s national stars begin their journey in competitions like these.

This is how the sport grows — counties supporting counties, clubs supporting clubs, and leaders coming together with one goal: giving young athletes a real chance to shine.

We also appreciate Kenya Aquatics for continuously supporting the development of swimming across the country. The support offered to Kilifi Aquatics, including the Colorado System 7 Timing equipment and other resources, played a huge role in the success of the event and shows real commitment to grassroots sports development.

Kenyan swimming is rising — and this is only the beginning. 🇰🇪🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️

Kenyan Swimmers Head to Tanzania for Elite High-Performance Camp

A group of Kenyan swimming stakeholders—athletes, coaches, and parents—has travelled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for a 10-day high-performance training camp at Monti International School. The camp will run from May 5 to May 14, 2026, and will be led by renowned American coach Austin Pillado.

Pillado, who currently serves as associate head coach of the women’s swimming team at Washington State University, was part of the technical team that guided a title-winning squad at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships in 2024 during his time at Arizona State University.

Speaking to the media at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while flagging off Team Kenya for the 17th Africa Aquatics Championships, Kenya Aquatics Technical Director Omar Ali Omari described the camp as a timely and important initiative.

“This is a great step forward, and it’s encouraging to see stakeholders across the region embrace it. Swimming has evolved significantly, with a strong emphasis on science and technique. The only way to improve is by learning from the best,” he said. “Pillado has worked with Olympic champions and world record holders, and we expect his experience to make a real impact, especially for our young swimmers.”

Monti International School founder and director Fatma Fernandes said the camp is designed to raise the standard of local swimmers to compete at a global level. She noted that bringing in elite coaches gives young athletes access to professional training methods and performance analysis similar to what top international swimmers receive.

The programme will incorporate advanced training tools, including underwater camera technology that provides real-time feedback to help swimmers refine their technique.

Participants will also take part in sessions covering race strategy, nutrition, and the modern “Fifth Stroke” concept, which focuses on improving efficiency and overall performance in competitive swimming.

The training model is based on systems used by NCAA university programmes, with a strong focus on mastering the four main swimming strokes while building endurance and speed. The school added that its investment in sports infrastructure, including a 25-metre Olympic-standard swimming pool, is meant to benefit both students and the wider community.

The camp is expected to draw participants from across East Africa, with limited slots available to ensure close supervision and personalised development.

Kenyan swimmers attending the camp come from clubs such as Gold Fish Nanyuki, Genesis Sports Limited, Torpedo, Orca Swim Club, Dashing Dolphins, and Potterhouse School Runda. Among the coaches is Sila Kennedy of Orca Swim Club under Kiambu Aquatics, an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level Five certified coach.

The camp comes at a time when Kenya is also preparing to host an ASCA Coaching Certification clinic in August at Crawford International School. The clinic will be facilitated by also an American Swimming Coach and is expected to attract participants from across Africa.
