The health of our oceans and mangroves is tied closely to human wellbeing. Please take a moment to help our neighbours in Kilifi County protest a proposed nuclear power plant right on the edge of a Marine National Park and near the Mida Creek mangrove system.

These photos, taken during a scientific study here in Kenya, show why visitors to the ocean should never touch even creatures considered hardier. Visitors are often encouraged to handle seastars and sea cucumbers, but look at their delicate little passengers who will be killed or injured by handling. Please don't play with their lives! This sea cucumber was host to many Emperor shrimps and a tiny crab, all less than 5 mm in length. The Cushion seastar was also home to shrimps.

Worried about going to Kisite if the weather isn't the best? You can go ahead and book, knowing that if the ocean does not cooperate on the day you can choose instead a less expensive trip snorkeling in the protected Wasini Channel. These photos were taken there last month when dhows were unable to go out to Kisite without risking making everyone seasick.
