ESPORTS AS AN INVESTMENT

Esports, short for “electronic sports”, transforms online gaming into a spectator sport.
The experience is similar to watching a professional sporting event, where, spectators watch video gamers compete against each other in a virtual environment.

Many technology platforms, services, events, analytics platforms, and substantial investor capital surrounds this ecosystem as it continues to grow. Becoming a top esports player is no simple achievement.
To rise through the ranks, players specialize in a specific game, developing their skills through extensive, competitive play.
Some even train up to 14 hours a day to hone quick reflexes and multi-tasking abilities.

Advertising comprises the revenue generated from the advertisements targeting esports viewers, including ads shown during livestreams on online platforms, on video-on-demand content of esports matches, or on esports TV.
The largest driver of revenue for the sector is sponsorships (38%).
Sponsorship is expected to grow to $655 million by 2020, especially as new brands (particularly lifestyle brands) enter the industry in coming years.

Therefore in this recovering economy, one can consider investment in eSports as it’s an assured return based on the current trends.

2021 World Women's Handball Championship

The 2021 IHF World Women's Handball Championship, an event organized by the International Handball Federation, will be held in Spain from 1 to 19 December 2021.

On 18 October 2018, at a congress in Doha, Qatar, the IHF announced that the World Championship would be expanded from 24 teams to 32 teams from 2021 onwards.
The Netherlands will be the defending champions after winning for the first time in 2019.

It’s played every two years, and European teams have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team. The biggest winner is Russia with four titles.

African teams need to invest more to make the game more popular if this dominance is to take a shift in the future. From their way of organizing competitions to the management of top athletes participating in the game.

What’s Sportswashing?

It is the practice of an individual, group, corporation, or nation-state using a major or prestigious international sport to improve its reputation, through hosting a sporting event, the purchase or sponsorship of sporting teams, or by participation in the sport.

Newcastle has been trending lately for their acquisition by the Saudi Arabians with this new owners making them the richest club in the world.
Questions have been raised on the effect it will have on the premier league and football in general.

Many claim that this is an attempt by the gulf based groups to use sporting events to improve their public image with an estimated $1.5bn spent on high-profile international sporting events in a bid to bolster its reputation, a new report reveals.

With the world cup final being held in Qatar next year let’s hope their investment aims to provide opportunities to the citizens and that they’re not engaging essentially in this costly form of propaganda.

UNPOPULAR SPORS FOCUS: ARCHERY.

Archery is the sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows.
Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity.

A person who practices archery is typically called an archer or a bowman, and a person who is fond of or an expert at archery is called a marksman.
In Kenya it’s regulated by the Kenya Archery Association. In 2005, Shehzana Anwar, Kenya’s ace female archer qualified for the international competition in Germany and in 2016, she won the African Archery competition that qualified her for the Olympics in the same year.

Due to lack of proper investment in the sport athletes were not well prepared for the 2019 All Africa Games. Kenya lost all the qualifying rounds which meant that Kenya lost all the slots for Olympics 2020 in Tokyo.

Here’s a list of the places you can go to and shoot some arrows; Strathmore University- Ole Sangale Rd; Nairobi Archery Club-Nairobi Mamba Village, Karen; The Forest- Kereita; Archery at Ngong Hills- Kompass; Archery at The Last Village.
As we reignite interest in this sport, let’s hope KAA will do its best in ensuring competent representation in upcoming tournaments.

She competed as recently as early October and finished second in the Giants 10K race in Geneva.

Sad news as Kenya has lost one of the brightest and most promising athletes in Agnes Tirop.
On Wednesday morning last week, she was found lying on a bed at her home in the town of Iten, with stab wounds in the neck and abdomen.

Mr Rotich, 41, the suspect was arrested in Changamwe area in the coastal town of Mombasa after a dramatic late-night chase and is being held in custody for 20 days pending further investigations. Authorities say he was trying to flee the country after making a tearful phone call to his family confessing he had done something terrible.

As we continue to honor her memory, we remember other victims of domestic violence, and condemn this horrible act that has no place in our society.

Stories from Various Athletes: Mohammed Salah

If you love watching football then you know of Mohammed Salah, the 'Egyptian King' as dubbed by Liverpool fans.

This is after his two spells at Chelsea 2014-15 and Liverpool 2017-present over a total of just 166 appearances.
He has forged a lethal partnership upfront with fellow African Sadio Mane who is at 100 premier league goals.

His other records include:
–32 league goals in 2017-18, a record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season also making him become the first player to outscore three Premier League teams in a league season.
– Having scored in 24 of his 38 league appearances in 2017-18, he holds the record for most games scored in during a Premier League season.
– Salah scored 25 left-footed goals in the Premier League in 2017-18, the most by any player in a single campaign in the competition’s history.

First Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

The 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at the Red Sea port city of Jeddah in December is set to be the fastest street track in F1 history, according to the event’s website and that’s quite an entry for the hosts as this will mark the first time it’s happening in Saudi Arabia.

Taking place under floodlights, drivers will encounter a circuit over six kilometers in length, which runs through the city’s scenic waterfront, featuring 27 corners and an average speed of about 252 km/h. At 50 laps, the race distance will measure about 309 km (192 miles), the design of the street circuit is fast and challenging.

Let’s hope the Event will be a success for sport and promote inclusivity for the Arabian people.
