Such an amazing art opening in Hoi An. Maybe it’s the memoir I’m reading combined with the feels I get from this history of Vietnam. But tonight spoke to me.

Lately, I’ve been hearing a very wise man (my dad) in my head. He taught us, money doesn’t buy class or kindness. Respect is earned by the way you communicate your respect to others. Every single job is about customer service. And most importantly, happiness over everything.

I’m a firm believer in teaching to the body in front of me. Pilates is a method and should be taught as so. I often hear Joe in my head (well what I think he sounded like!) reminding me Rome wasn’t built in a day. “Teach my method and the harder movements will flow.”

Pilates is a system of movements created by Joseph Pilates and originally called Contrology. I’m often asked “Can I do the tricks I see on social media?” My response is once you know the foundation and the system we will see. We will ask… is it safe? Is your body able to perform this movement? And will it enhance your DLA? Does it fit with YOUR goals? BUT NOT UNTIL YOU KNOW THE FOUNDATION! Dancers don’t dance without knowing the foundation. Musicians don’t perform without knowing the foundation. The list goes on. Learn the method and teachers TEACH THE METHOD! Rant over.

Hard to believe I am celebrating my third Birthday in Cambodia. When I moved here I never thought it would be all this! I believe when we celebrate our birth it is our time to begin a new personal chapter. When I sold The Pilates Loft I swore I would never be in a big studio again. When I moved to Siem Reap a swore I would never live in Phnom Penh. This new year brings me those things. A new chapter in my Pilates journey, new Pilates Consortium goals and a chance to fulfill a long term goal. it shall be a wild ride!
