Training your movement patterns correctly not only avoids injuries but also increases your power to lift heavier objects!
*Ensure to avoid rounding your shoulders.
Pull your shoulders backward before initiating the lift. This engages your back muscles which increases muscular power. It also adjusts the path of resistance to bring the object straight up instead of backwards and upwards.
*If you are oriented slightly forward on initiating the lift you risk injuring your lower back, especially on increasing the load.
*Don't forget, these lifting concepts translate to day to day lifting, not just the gym. Functional movement patterns should be your primary focus as you age.

90kg hip thrust
Just because you can lift more, it doesn't mean you should!
A hip thrust with less weight, correctly placed feet and slow controlled reps gives far better glute activation than going heavier and allowing your hamstrings to take over due to synergistic dominance.
If you can't feel your glutes, drop the weight and focus on teaching your glutes to do the work.
Better yet, train with a professional and stop wasting your time!

40kg FINALLY!!
After six months of sticking at 39kg. I guess I had to turn 40 to get 40 😂 Maybe I will hit 45 at 45 and that's OK!!
Battle ropes are a great low impact alternative for improving cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and core strength. If you need to avoid running, or jumping due to lower body injuries then this may be a great option to warm up and can be included in a hiit session. Injury should not be a reason to quit!
