Aaron Cook changed his nationality

A Central European country adopted the iconic athlete (under 80 kg) and his participation in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016

Desperately seeking not being left out of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as it happened during London 2012, and after representing Isle of Man for some time, Aaron Cook finally found a nation which opened its doors and gave him the opportunity to be at the Olympics next year.

Knowing that the fact of representing Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency, would not give him the opportunity to get to the Olympics, Cook started the process of changing his nationality and finally found a country which will make his dream come true.

Some Latin American countries such as Costa Rica were included in his list; however it was Moldova the country with which Cook reached an agreement. Cook has already the Moldavian citizenship and the approval of the Moldova National Olympic Committee to represent them at the Olympics but it is even more significant that he has the WTF Executive Committee´s approval.
Moldova, also known as Moldavia, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe located between Romania to its west and Ukraine to its north, east and south. Its capital city is Chișinău.

At the meeting in Bangkok, Thailand in January, the World Taekwondo Federation Council unanimously approved to give Cook the “green light” and consequently Moldova will get the successes and medals this iconic athlete

According to the legal process, “any competitor who is a national of two or more countries at the same time may represent either one of them, as he may elect. However, after having represented one country in the Olympic or regional championships promoted or recognized by the WTF, he may not represent another country unless at least three (3) years have passed since the competitor last represented his former country”. However, if the parties involved, in this case the WTF, the Moldova Olympic Committee and the Great Britain Olympic Committee, come to an agreement, the three year´s period may be reduced.

Consequently, it is in Great Britan´s hands to obtain the final “yes” which will represent for Cook getting to Rio 2016 and fighting to achieve the long-dreamed Olympic Medal.

Daedo will be in Rio Olympics 2016

INTERNATIONAL - 2015/02/16 - The fight between the Spanish Daedo and the Korean KP&P brands to be the supplier for the Protector Scoring System in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games has come to an end as the WTF has just informed.

The race to be the official supplier of the Protector Scoring System for Rio 2016 has ended. Daedo and KP&P showed all their cards, and Swiss Timing, confirmed that the system to be used at the most important competition such as the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is Daedo.

The announcement was made today by the WTF through a statement sent to the all the Member National Associations, informing that on January 29 the Swiss company reached a decision after numerous tests and meetings.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that KP&P is still an approved brand; consequently, the WTF presented the list of events where each brand will be the supplier.

CONGRATS TAEKWONDO INCLUDED ON TOKYO 2020 PARALMPIC PROGRAMME

Abu Dhabi, UAE (31 January, 2015) - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board today announced that taekwondo will have the honour of making its historic debut in the Paralympic Games at Tokyo 2020.
The decision was confirmed at a meeting of the IPC Governing Board in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The 22 sports on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games sports programme are: athletics, archery, badminton, boccia, canoe, cycling, equestrian, football 5-a-side, goalball, judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis.
Speaking following the announcement, WTF President Chungwon Choue said:
“We are delighted and humbled that the IPC Governing Board has selected para-taekwondo for inclusion on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games sports programme for the very first time. We have always been 100% committed to making our sport a sport for all and inclusion in the Paralympic Games will help us to engage with more people than ever. Today is not just the realisation of a dream for us, but the realisation of a dream for para-taekwondo athletes around the world.
“We have achieved a lot but we know this is only the beginning for para-taekwondo. We are very grateful to the IPC for giving us and our athletes this opportunity and over the next five years we will work tirelessly to show them that they were right to put their faith in our sport. We look forward to working closely with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee to provide the ultimate sporting spectacle for Paralympic fans in 2020.”
