BUILDING A WORD WARDROBE:

I'd like to help you spice up your life today and add new color to your vocabulary. When was the last time you used a new idiom or expression in English? I so want you to add more color to your language, and if you're always using the same old expressions, that's not happening.

So let's make it happen! ✅

🎯 The next time someone asks if they present a new idea to you, instead of saying 'OK', how about 'I'm all ears'?

🎯 If you think someone has stolen something, you can ask if they got a 'five-finger discount'.

🎯 Instead of starting again on a new project, how about 'going back to square one'?

🎯 And how about developing a new 'game plan' the next time you go into a strategy meeting?

🎯 When you want to calm someone down when they are getting overly excited or impatient, try ‘slow your roll’.

🎯 Instead of saying ‘No way’, how about ‘Hard pass.’ Just as direct but a nice change of vocabulary scenery.

🎯 And…my newest favorite…when you get criticism for something you enjoy?
You look that person in the eye and say ‘Hey…don’t yuck my yum’. See how they react! 👀

My challenge for you- use one of these every day, and let me know how it’s going! 🤩

Use it or lose it my darling- that’s how we build a Word Wardrobe…together.

'My whole history of presenting in English started with you. 4 months ago.'

And look at him today.

Meet Jeroen. He had never given a presentation in English before. He is self-taught, never had English at school, and didn't feel confident or professional on stage. His intake read (and I quote with permission) 'I don't like presenting. I don't have the right words or grammar.'

We started working together in January and I was immediately impressed by his drive - to learn, to absorb and apply all the feedback, to go a bit further every time.

He put it all into practice in his first talk. We evaluated, tweaked, and expanded his skill set. Together. From basic fact-sharing to an impactful storytelling narrative. The Magic 3. Bookending your talk. Powerful body language. Audience identification. Dealing with questions. Identifying your purpose. Taglines. CTAs. Need to know vs nice to know. Breathwork. Visualization. And more. 💪

He gave his second talk. And was delighted to hear that other people started seeing a difference. We evaluated, tweaked, and took more steps together.

In April, he gave his first talk abroad, to a huge audience. This photo gives me goosebumps. 🤩

This man (who gave his first English presentation in January, may I remind you) will be speaking at a global event with over 4,000 people in the live audience (and thousands more streaming) after the summer. 🥇

I don't say I'm a for nothing. Seeing my clients grow and glow gives me indescribable joy.

So often, without even realizing it, and through no fault of their own, a wall gets created a wall that blocks people from doing more in English. I see this every day. Through coaching, through caring, through connection and honest communication, we remove a brick out of that wall. Every time. One brick. They can glimpse a tiny slice of what's behind that wall. We continue our Learning Journey.

Pretty quickly it becomes 2 bricks. Then 3. Then more. Wow. People start to see what is waiting for them on the other side. And they love that view. And before you know it, the bricks are just a pile of rubble that they can jump over as they start having fun and enjoying the playground of possibilities that has always been there, waiting for them to discover and explore.

IT'S NOT MAGIC. IT'S HARD HEART WORK.

Coaching only works when it's received with passion, ambition, and determination. And, in my case, a big hug and lots of laughter.
And boy, did we have fun together!

I took Jeroen out to lunch today to celebrate this new and wonderful chapter in his career, and, because he dared to take the Very First Step with me, gifted him with an exclusive treasure - Bossche Bollen socks. 🤩

As a coach, I live in a world of what is possible.
One of the greatest gifts is seeing my clients discover it too.

Thank you for everything Jeroen. I cannot wait for the world to see you in action.
Love,
Buffi

YOU ARE NOT A NUMBER - SO STOP TREATING YOURSELF LIKE ONE 🙏

Numbers are measurements.
They are NOT identities.

We live in a word obsessed with numbers:
Weight.
Age.
Followers.
Income.
Grades.
Ratings.
Sizes.
Scores.

Without realizing it, many people begin to reduce themselves to those numbers.
This is 50 shades of wrong. You know why?

Because you are not a number.
You are a human being with immeasurable value.

REFRAME THE GAME

Instead of saying:
'I’m 70 kilos.'
'I’m broke.'
'I’m only a beginner.'
'I’m a million-dollar coach.'

Try saying this (and believing it) instead:

'My body is carrying me through life.'
'I am building financial stability.'
'I am learning and growing.'
'I help people create transformation.'

I'd like to end this post with 1 simple question:
If every number connected to your life disappeared overnight (no salary, age, weight, etc) - what qualities about you would still remain?

Write them down.
Your worth, my dear, goes far beyond any number.
Just a gentle reminder.

Love,
Buffi ♥

ORANGE YOU GLAD IT’S KONINGSDAG? 🧡🧡🧡🧡. In the Netherlands, where I am based, it’s Kings Day! I love this holiday because it means everyone is covered in my favorite color, orange!
In the Royal Spirit, I’d like to take this opportunity to help you broaden your vocabulary horizons with some expressions, all about kings, queens, and royalty!
1. ‘A prince among men’ – a fella who is very classy, kind, or sophisticated.
2. ‘Cash is king’ –when money is the most valuable or important thing.
3. ‘A king’s ransom’ – a very, very large amount of money.
4. ‘To live like a king’ – to have a very luxurious lifestyle
5. ‘Queen bee’ – a woman in a leadership role
6. ‘Drama queen’ – someone who should save their drama for their mama
7. ‘Yaassss queen!’ – an expression showing excitement or approval (snap your fingers while you say this for extra impact)
8. ‘Royal pain in the a$$’ – really (really!) annoying
9. ‘A battle royal’ – a very hard-fought battle or argument
10. ‘To get the royal treatment’ – to get elaborate attention and care
11. (My personal favorite) ‘Always wear your invisible crown’ – hold your head up high and feel good about yourself no matter the circumstances
That’s all for now!
If you are celebrating, I hope you have a wonderful day!
If you are not celebrating, I hope you have a wonderful day!

Love,
Queen B. 🧡

AI-mazing Presentations! ⚡ It was such a delight to coach the 12 global teams who were finalists in the recent Prosus AI Challenge held in China last week. I designed a webinar specifically for their needs on how to pitch with power and presence, and then I coached every team with personal feedback on their own pitches - delivery, structure, vocabulary, and more. 💪

My 'joy first' approach means we put the 'present' back into 'presentations'. To me, this word has 2 significant meanings:
1: That you realize that sharing your knowledge is one of the greatest gifts you can give to the world.
2: Staying present while you share your gifts means you are focused on adding value to your audience's lives, not focussed internally on how you are doing. You are too joyful and excited to beat yourself up while you are standing in the spotlight. 🤩

Would you like to speak with more impact on stage?
Here are a few tips I shared with these brilliant teams. They can help you stay strong and pitch with power!

1. You were asked to pitch (or present) for a reason. Do you find it hard to believe? This means either that they were lying (or have absolutely horrible taste) when they asked you, or that you don't realize how fabulous your knowledge is. Choose a side.

2. Are you an introvert? I get it. Remember, this is NOT about you. It's about your knowledge. Share it freely, without judgment. Put the focus on your audience - they NEED to hear this, they are EXCITED to learn from you, and are CURIOUS about what you need to share. It's not about you. It's about serving them.

3. If you are judging yourself while you are talking, you are having a not-so-delightful conversation with yourself. Not with them. You are there to serve others with your expertise, not to get stuck in the train wreck of low self-esteem. Don't make YOUR issues THEIR problem. You can beat yourself up after you are done. (However, I'd love to help you stop doing that forever. Mail me anytime!).

4. Stuck in your head while presenting? Then connect fast to your body. This minimizes the inner voice, and fast. One of the craziest and most effective hacks is to wiggle your toes. 👣 If you focus on your toes (and I mean wiggling them one by one, not an easy feet and yes, I see what I did there) you will feel more grounded and balanced. Try it and thank me later.

5. Sharing your expertise, your track record, your knowledge is NOT arrogant. It's something you worked too hard for to keep that gold to yourself. Why deny the world the gift of learning from you? Share it freely without hesitation. We will all be the better for it. 💖

Thank you to Analisa Ponce for the recommendation and Rajesh Elangovan for organizing it all. 🚀 Congrats to Mariane Bando and team ECHO on bringing home the gold, and deep appreciation and admiration to ALL the teams for working so hard and embracing the learning journey! So proud of you all! 🥇

Love,
Buffi

GOTTA LOSE MY EGG: I love the Dutch- they made Easter 2 days long. Thank you, Dutchies! 🐣In my family, we celebrate both Easter and Passover. I was raised Jewish and my husband was raised Catholic. This basically gives us the opportunity to celebrate just about any holiday that we can get our hands on. Here’s my little holiday gift to you on Easter Monday: 8 expressions that have the word ‘egg’ in it!

🐣“To egg someone on” – to incite or to encourage someone to do something, often something risky or naughty. “She was egged on by her friends to go up to that hottie and offer to buy him a drink.”

🐣“To egg someone” – to throw eggs at someone. “Damn, I got egged on April Fool’s Day!”

🐣“To have egg on one’s face” - when one is embarrassed at having done something foolish or unwise. “He really had egg on his face when he gave his presentation and burped during his intro!”

🐣“To walk on eggshells” – to be very cautious; to try not to upset or offend someone. “We really had to walk on eggshells at work when we heard that reductions were imminent in our department.”

🐣“A good egg” – someone who’s a really good and honest person. “I don’t mind if you borrow my brand new Tesla; you’re a good egg.”

🐣“You cannot make an omelet without breaking a few eggs” – this means that you have to give up or change something in order to get or create something better. “So, we have to break down that garage in order to build a new wellness center? Well, you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

🐣“A nest egg” – This is an amount of money that you are saving for later. “Don’t feel sorry for him for getting laid off – I hear he’s got quite a nest egg!”

🐣“A bad egg” – this should come as no surprise, but it’s someone who is badly behaved or dishonest. “OMG, you broke my new Lego castle?!? You are such a bad egg!”

Wishing you a day that’s sunny side up! 😎🪺🍳
