Built in 1945, the USS Kittiwake was assigned as a support and rescue vessel for the Submarine Squadron 6. After 49 years in duty, the US Navy decommissioned and sold it to the Cayman Islands government. The Kittiwake was sunk January 2011 just off Seven Mile Beach, within the Marine Park Zone of Grand Cayman. The vessel lies in water depths ranging from 15 to 64 ft below the ocean surface, making it very accessible and popular wreck diving excursion and providing a nice artificial reef for the Grand Cayman marine life.
