SEA Games Kick Off in Thailand

Today, the SEA Games officially kicked off in Songkhla, Thailand, bringing together top athletes from across Southeast Asia. The Games will take place from December 17 to December 19.

The competition program includes freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, and women’s wrestling, with wrestling traditionally being one of the key and most competitive sports at the SEA Games.

The event is held under the auspices of national federations and international sports organizations. For wrestlers, the SEA Games represent an important stage in the international calendar and a valuable opportunity to compete at a high level.

Organizers expect strong competition and exciting performances throughout the Games.

President Sadyr Zhaparov received Mr. Nenad Lalovic, President of United World Wrestling, as Head of Delegation, and Mr. Mohammad Zeyad Al-Awamleh, President of UWW Asia, during an official meeting held in Bishkek.

H.E. President Sadyr Zhaparov commended the continued efforts of UWW and UWW Asia in strengthening the development of wrestling worldwide, emphasizing Kyrgyzstan’s remarkable rise as a leading nation in the sport and praising the achievements of Kyrgyz wrestlers on the global stage.

Mr. Nenad Lalovic acknowledged Kyrgyzstan’s rapid progress and highlighted its position as a growing model of athlete development, sports infrastructure investment, and international competitiveness.

UWW Asia President Mohammad Zeyad Al-Awamleh expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed that Kyrgyzstan’s accelerated sports advancement reinforces its role within the international wrestling movement and confirms its readiness to host future major events under the UWW umbrella.

The meeting concluded with a mutual exchange of recognitions, reflecting the depth of cooperation and the shared commitment to further advancing wrestling in Kyrgyzstan, across Asia, and globally.
