When Dr. Ghassan Salem, professor of ancient language and religion, first read the Book of Mormon it was clear to him as a subject expert that it was an authentic ancient record of middle eastern/Semitic origin.

However, what was more important was the message of faith and God's power and love that he felt in reading it. Dr. Salem says that it awakened something in him and that he owes his faith to the book.

"Together with the Bible, the Book of Mormon is an indispensable witness of the doctrines of Christ and His divinity....Again and again the Book of Mormon acts as a confirming, clarifying, unifying witness of the doctrines taught in the Bible so that there is only 'one Lord, one faith, one baptism.' " -Elder Tad R. Callister

Last week Elder Wilford W. Andersen of the Seventy (see Luke 10) visited Beirut. He is a worldwide leader for our Church and was joined by his wife, Kathleen. They visited government and religious leaders, helped with a humanitarian project, and met with members and friends. They also held a meeting with refugees here in Lebanon to hear their stories and learn about their needs. It was great! Nearly 20% of all the forcibly displaced people in the world live in our district. All on the panel agreed that the greatest need is to pursue education! Many of the adults had college degrees, but their children were stuck. We hope to find some solutions to this challenge!
