A good leader is someone who inspires, guides, and empowers others toward a shared vision while demonstrating integrity, resilience, and adaptability. Effective leadership is not merely about holding a position of authority but about fostering trust, collaboration, and growth within a team or community. It is left to wonder if any of the candidates vying for the top positions at CFU have demonstrated any of these desirable qualities of a good leader.

Former St Lucian football boss charged by FIFA - Jamaica Observer 26/11/2024

Former St. Lucia Football Association President, Patrick Mathurin who left office under a cloud of accusations following a bribery scandal involving several other football association heads in CONCACAF, was reportedly in attendance at a meeting of St. Lucia Football Association’s League Presidents, organised by his immediate successor, the current President.

Reportedly, Mr. Mathurin was never formally introduced to participants of the meeting nor was any explanation provided for his presence or any statements made to indicate his capacity or role at the meeting.

One is left to wonder if the recently retired Patrick Mathurin is attempting a Lazarus-like resurrection into the world of football, or is he on a reconnaissance mission determine whether or not the dubious circumstances surrounding his troubled exit have been forgotten and forgiven.

Already, many are asking, will it be rinse, recycle and repeat for the administration of the beautiful game in St. Lucia?

What do you have to say on this odd but troubling development?

FIFA Rules of the game - Law 14: The Penalty Kick states:
- The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player.
- The penalty kick is completed when the ball stops moving, goes out of play or the referee stops play for any offence.
Interpretation:
- The goal keeper is another player.
- Law 14 identifies specific offences and sanctions that apply to the penalty kick.
- Neither the kicker nor the goal keeper is an outside agent.
Decision:
- If neither the kicker nor the goal keeper has committed an offence, and the ball has not gone out of play, if the ball rebounds of the goal keeper after the kicker has kicked it forward, the kicker can attempt again to score. Therefore, the Goal Stands.

General Statement:
In the context of the Semi-Pro League, it should be anticipated that the outcome of refereeing decisions will have serious consequences. The FA must rightfully enforce and support coaching licensing requirements. Given the high stakes associated with referees’ decisions in the Semi-Pro League where outcomes can have financial implications, the FA must ensure that all match officials are properly trained and competent to supervise fixtures. If a case can be made for coaches to be up to date on their qualifications, then a stronger case can be made for referees and their qualifications, especially when a single referee can completely change the outcome of a game and by extension, a tournament. One might be justified in asking, to what extent were referees and match officials prepared to undertake the officiating of games in such a stakes tournament as this inaugural Semi-Pro League in Saint Lucia.
