🇨🇴 Shakira is one of the World Cup greats of this century.

Two decades ago, in the summer of 2006, she performed "Hips Don't Lie" with Wyclef Jean at the World Cup closing ceremony in Berlin. At the time, the song was everywhere, one of the biggest global hits of that year.

In 2010, she became part of World Cup history with "Waka Waka," the official song of the first World Cup ever held in Africa, performing it at the kick-off concert and again at the closing ceremony before the final. That tournament changed her life too.

While filming the Waka Waka music video in Madrid, she met a young Spanish defender named Gerard Pique. He appeared in the video, went on to win the World Cup with Spain, became her partner, and together they had two sons.

In 2014, she was back again in Brazil, performing "La La La" at the Maracanã closing ceremony before Germany vs Argentina.

And now in 2026, she is in Mexico City, performing "Dai Dai" with Burna Boy at the opening ceremony of the World Cup.

She's not done yet. Shakira will be back next month to co-headline the first ever World Cup final half-time show, alongside Madonna and BTS.
