The Munneswaram Temple is the most prominent of the Iswarams in Sri Lanka.People are worshiping in this temple irrespective of caste, religion and language.Munneswaram is a temple associated with mythological history and Sri Lankan history.The name of the Lord of this temple is Munnai Nath Peruman.He is also known as Swamyam Bhuveswarar.Goddess name Vadivambhikai Ambal.

The eternal and temporal activities of the Munneswarar temple are going on well.The main Mahakotsavam of this temple is held for twenty seven daysThe month of Avani ends with Tirthasava on the full moon day.Every day during the festival here like in no other templeThere will be a street procession of Somakanda Murtha in the morning and evening.The last six days of the festival are the most auspicious. For the status of Saivism in temples in Sri Lanka,To the sixty-three Nayanmars who manifested the presence of the LordMunneswara Temple is the only temple that celebrates the festival.Along with the two Mahakotsavams that take place in this temple, Shivratri, Navratri,Tirukarthikai, Thiruvembavai, Arudra darshanam etc. are also special.The temple is located in Puttalam district in the north-western region of Sri LankaIn the village of Munneswaram in the town of Silapam.
