Few drop catches (with the ball) and it was hot there and we did well after that, and I got two wickets. In the end we stopped them to 270s which is a decent score. Only one thing was going in my mind (When I came out to bat) and this is the kind of thing you dream when you start playing cricket and when playing for India. No better way to win the match for the nation. Rahul sir told me to play all the balls. I have played few innings for India A and he has belief in me and always believes in me and that was a game changer. We have a fantastic batting line-up and hopefully I won't get to bat in the next games. This is the first time for me in such a situation. We were just playing ball by ball and when it came under 50 that is when I decided to hit boundaries and after that six it gave me the momentum.

Man of the Match: "I think it was much needed for the team. Because we lost six wickets and when Saha came in, we had a chat about building a long partnership to get close to their total. I and Vijay were having a good partnership, so I never thought I will face so many balls. But I knew I had to bat long to reach to their total. I do get tempted (to hit over the top) but you still have to look at the bigger picture. There was a situation when you couldn't afford to lose wickets, so I had to restrict myself when I knew I was timing the ball really ball. So I looked for singles, rotated the strike unless the ball was really loose, rather than trying to create a shot. It is natural to me (playing long). I don't need motivation when I am playing for the Indian team. We always want to win. We are number one and we want to maintain it. We were close to winning this Test too. To go past their total and to put them under pressure on the last day (was good). They were four down at lunch but Handscomb and Marsh batted well, we didn't get a wicket between lunch and tea, and that's where the game changed. We have an opportunity to win the series. (Long innings) does (take a toll on the fitness). I do get tired. We have an important Test match coming up and I hope that I am ready."

I don't know how I'm gonna pick up a bat again. I just need to be away for a bit and play with my dogs.

No surprises here - Virat Kohli is also the Man of the Match for his double century.

"It was a good wicket to bat on, a good toss to win. Putting up massive runs on the board in the first innings always helps. The opposition batted well in the first innings. The plan was to get into good habits like we did in the past season as well and more importantly we have a big series coming up as well. The bowlers got back into their groove before an important series and all in all a good performance. The track didn't offer much and the bowlers found ways to get batsmen out and this was no different. The guys stuck it out, worked really hard for the wickets, had to be patient at times, did not get overexcited which was really good to see. Ishant's spell in the second innings was outstanding, bowling with the soft ball and getting it to reverse at pace either way was really good to to see. If you have two world class spinners in your side, you can tell the fast bowlers to come and attack. The partnership between the spinners and the pacers is very heartening to watch. This game has been a revelation for us. Bhuvi bowled beautifully with the old ball which is positive for us."

“I felt nice playing my first match at Bengaluru for India. I feel like home while playing here. I have bowled in the powerplay in the IPL and Virat has the confidence in me and even I have the confidence to bowl in the first six overs. Since it is a small ground, the batsman try to play their shots, I plan according to that. and never dreamt of taking six wickets”.
