☀️ Vitamin D & Performance – A Hidden Issue Among Sri Lankan Athletes!☀️

Did you know that nearly 90% of Sri Lankan adults have inadequate Vitamin D levels?
According to the Weekly Epidemiological Report, a publication of the Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine, 58.8% of Sri Lankan adults are Vitamin D deficient and 31.4% are insufficient.

For athletes, this is not just a statistic — it directly affects:
✔️ Bone strength
✔️ Muscle function
✔️ Recovery
✔️ Growth in young athletes

As athletes, support staff, and parents, understanding this is crucial for long-term performance and health.

🌞 How to Naturally Boost Vitamin D

🕙 Best Time for Sun Exposure
Between 10.00 AM – 3.00 PM
(Optimal window: 11.00 AM – 2.00 PM)

⏳ Duration
Just 20–30 minutes daily is usually enough.

👕 Skin Exposure
Expose at least 25% of your body (arms and legs) to direct sunlight.

⚠️ Important Point

• Our skin tone naturally slows Vitamin D production, so consistent short sun exposure is important.

Vitamin D deficiency is a *silent performance limiter*.
Don’t let it affect your strength, recovery, and development.

🌞 Step outside. Train smart. Stay strong. 💪

Missed periods in female athletes are NOT normal.

Amenorrhea is often a warning sign — not something to ignore.

It may be linked to:
• Hormonal imbalance
• Low energy availability / Poor nutrition
• Excessive training load
• Physical or psychological stress

For female athletes, the menstrual cycle is an important indicator of overall health and performance. Early recognition and proper medical guidance can prevent long-term complications and protect both health and career longevity.

If you missed your periods, it’s time to seek professional advice.
