A Story from Today…
After quite a long time, one of my beloved Sri Lankan students and also a dear friend came to visit me. Since we had not met for such a long time, we spent several hours talking about our lives, our businesses, our country, the world, and so many other things.
In between our conversations, as always, my mother welcomed and treated us with her usual warmth and affection, serving us food and drinks in the traditional way we do at home.
This has always been a natural part of our daily life at our yoga sanctuary. In fact, this routine has become such a meaningful part of our lives that having a meal without a beloved Sri Lankan or foreign friend, or a few friends, feels strangely empty and boring to both me and my family.
That is how beautiful these simple moments have become for us. ❤️
I have invested all the money I earned throughout my lifetime of teaching yoga into building Rukshan Yoga in Mirissa. Every brick and every structure here is a quiet witness to the sacrifices, sweat, tears, love, and precious relationships that have shaped this place.
Inside these walls, I have experienced a powerful life lesson over nearly twelve years, as far as I can remember.
One of the deepest lessons is this: according to my belief, everyone I have unexpectedly met in this life—whether Sri Lankan or from another country—who has smiled with me, talked with me, and gradually become as close as family, may have been my brother, sister, or relative from a previous life.
Perhaps that is why we become comfortable with each other so quickly, become friends so naturally, and develop a bond that feels as close as family.
Another powerful lesson I have learned is that, in a world where even we do not truly belong to ourselves, we cannot hold on to these beautiful relationships forever.
Many of the people who meet us with love and warmth, share beautiful moments with us, and then continue on their own journey may never cross our path again. We cannot even be certain that we will ever see them again.
That too is a truth of life that my family and I experience and witness every day.
