Bopolu Central Elementary School Crowned Champions in Gbarpolu
Bopolu Central Elementary School has emerged as champions of the 2026 Inter-School Competition in Gbarpolu County.
In a dramatic final, Bopolu clinched the trophy with a thrilling 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Bishop Stephen T.Y. Benda United Pentecostal School, following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
The tournament is part of the grassroots school football initiative organized by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in collaboration with the Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA).
The competition is currently being held across 15 counties, with Grand Bassa and Rivercess already completing their respective editions.

ISSA Inducts New Leadership with Defined Portfolios in Ganta
Ganta, Nimba County — The Inter School Sports Association (ISSA) over the weekend held a colorful induction ceremony for its newly elected national leadership in the city of Ganta. The event took place at the Ganta Assembly of God Church, attracting stakeholders, athletes, and supporters from across the country.
The ceremony formally ushered into office a new leadership team with clearly defined portfolios aimed at strengthening the administration of inter-school sports in Liberia.
Inducted officials and their positions are as follows:
Evan B. Somah — President
Melton Yoko — Vice President for Administration
Christopher Nlynder — Vice President for Operations
Trobleh Johnson — Vice President for Technical Affairs
Lovette Awode — Vice President for International Affairs
Amie Wesseh — Vice President for Women Affairs
Dyric S. Payway — Secretary General
Joseph S. Boakai — Treasurer
James Diamond Blamo — Deputy Secretary General
Additionally, an Advisory Board was constituted and inducted to provide oversight and strategic guidance to the association. Members and their roles include:

In his remarks, President Somah thanked the Nimba County chapter of ISSA for hosting the induction ceremony and urged them to continue their commendable work in advancing school sports.
“We will not sleep,” he emphasized, assuring that his administration will work tirelessly to ensure that school sports across Liberia remain credible, accessible, and supportive of young athletes.
He also extended appreciation to key partners including the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Football Association, along with other federations and associations that continue to support ISSA’s mission.
President Somah concluded by expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Ganta Assembly of God Church for hosting the event, noting that their support contributed significantly to the success of the ceremony.
The induction marks the beginning of a new era for ISSA, as the newly installed leadership takes up the responsibility of promoting and developing inter-school sports throughout Liberia.

Buchanan Open Bible School U-15 Crowned Champions of LFA–ISSA Special Tournament
Buchanan Open Bible School’s Under-15 team has emerged as champions of the LFA–Inter School Sports Association (ISSA) U-15 Special Tournament, following a thrilling 6–5 penalty shootout victory over Buchanan Wesley Institute (BWI) in the grand final.
The exciting three-day tournament, hosted at the Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchanan, brought together 16 schools from different academic institutions across Grand Bassa County. The competition has been widely described as a historic and long-awaited initiative aimed at strengthening grassroots football development among school students.
Open Bible School advanced to the final in impressive fashion, recording four consecutive victories on their way to the championship match. However, the final proved to be a tough contest as they were held to a goalless draw by Buchanan Wesley Institute, forcing the title to be decided through a penalty shootout.
In the tense shootout, both teams successfully converted their first three penalties. Open Bible missed their fourth attempt, but BWI failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Open Bible quickly regrouped and eventually sealed a dramatic 6–5 victory, sparking celebrations among their players, supporters, and school community.
This triumph further strengthens Buchanan Open Bible School’s reputation as one of the leading forces in school football in Grand Bassa County, continuing a proud tradition of excellence that has made the institution one of the most respected and competitive programs in the region.

📌 ISSA NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS TO PLAN U-15 SCHOOL LEAGUE ⚽🇱🇷
The Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) National Executive Committee on Monday, February 10, 2026, held a strategic meeting at the ISSA National Headquarters, Sports Commission, Broad Street, to discuss and outline key implementation steps for the successful rollout of the National U-15 School Football League, made possible through the generous grant provided by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) with support from CAF.
This historic initiative marks the first time ISSA is spearheading a nationwide U-15 school league, and the meeting focused on planning around logistics, coordination with county chapters, equipment distribution, competition structure, and administrative processes to ensure a smooth and impactful implementation across the 15 counties.
The meeting was attended by the following National Executives:
