CDC Expels Three Senior Members Over Alleged Disloyalty

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced the immediate expulsion of three of its members, citing alleged acts of disloyalty and violations of the party’s constitution and bylaws.

Those expelled are Senator Zoe E. Pennue, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, and Representative Samson Weah of Sinoe County District Two. The party said the decision followed nearly 18 months of conduct it described as damaging to the CDC’s interests and inconsistent with its core principles.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Chairman, Atty. Janga A. Kowo, the CDC said the expulsions were carried out in line with multiple provisions of its constitution, including Sections 38, 39, 41(A), 42, 44, 45, 46, and 47. Section 47 of the constitution outlines circumstances under which membership may cease, including withdrawal of loyalty to another political party or expulsion endorsed by the party’s National Executive Committee.

The CDC accused the expelled members of using public platforms to criticize the party and of aligning themselves with the governing Unity Party, actions the opposition party said amount to a transfer of political loyalty.

According to the statement, the CDC no longer recognizes the three individuals as members and warned the public against engaging with them in the name of the party. The party emphasized that anyone doing so would be acting at their own risk.

The CDC reaffirmed its commitment to what it described as people-centered governance and said it remains focused on rebuilding its structures ahead of the 2029 general elections, with the stated aim of returning to power.

The expelled individuals have not yet publicly responded to the party’s decision.

Opposition Political Party (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson Wins Parliament Seat In Uganda From Prison

Campala, Uganda (January 16, 2025) - Alex W. Mufumbiro, an opposition candidate for Parliament in Uganda has been pronounced winner for his district's parliamentary seat while in Prison.

Mr. Mufumbiro, the Deputy Spokesperson for the opposition National Unity Platform Party has been in Prison since September 10, 2025 and is currently in jail, even after the pronouncement of his victory as the winner of one of the Representative seats from the just ended presidential and general elections.

Alex never campaign, neither did he attend any public debate. A few weeks after candidacy registration, he was locked up for agitating against the government for its bad leadership in Uganda, who didn't give him freedom knowing he was contesting. Yet still, he won the election without distributing rice, money, scholarships, or building roads.

The question is, When will Liberians start to vote based on advocacy and prospects that the candidate brings to the discourse for transformation?
