Warriors Dominate Lesotho Tournament
On September 13, 2025, the Warriors table tennis team attended the Lesotho tournament, showcasing their skills and determination. The event was filled with thrilling matches, impressive performances, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Men's Singles
The men's singles final was a all-Warriors affair, with Cedric Modise facing off against teammate Sipho Booi. In an intense match, Cedric emerged victorious, claiming the gold medal with a score of 3-2. Sipho put up a great fight but ultimately settled for silver.
The road to the final was paved with exciting matches. In the quarterfinals, Sipho and Mnikelo Dry had a nail-biting 5-set decider, with Sipho coming out on top. Cedric took Oom Vic out in three games in his semi-final match, making him proceed to the finals. Ettienne Engelbrecht, a player from Bloemfontein, had an impressive run, taking out Lesotho's number 1 player in the quarterfinals. However, he lost to Sipho in the semifinals with a score of 3-0.
Gift Hlatswayo also showcased his skills in the senior men's category but unfortunately lost to Oom Vic in a 2-0 straight sets score. Despite the setback, Gift will undoubtedly return stronger as a Warrior.
An upset was on display after the Warriors boy Oreneile Moraile beat Lesotho's legend Hareteke Mapeshwane in a match of two games making it 2-0 to Oreneile.
Women's Singles
The Warriors Ladies showed exceptional skill and dominance in the tournament. In the group stages, they easily topped their groups, with Boipelo Mashwabi, Rethabile Molisenyane, Halaletsang Matsie, and Boingotlo Mothupi all advancing to the knockout stages.
In the quarterfinals, Rethabile Molisenyane faced Reaboka Bofelo but unfortunately lost. Boingotlo Mothupi won her match against Zanele Mofechane 2-0. Halaletsang Matsie faced Thato Mathibeli and won 2-1. Boipelo Mashwabi dominated Naledi Mfundisi 2-0.
The semifinals saw Boipelo Mashwabi and Boingotlo Mothupi emerging victorious, setting up an all-Warriors final. In the final match, Boipelo Mashwabi came from behind to defeat Boingotlo Mothupi 3-1, claiming the gold medal.
Junior Boys
In the Junior Boys category, Oreneile faced Ricardo Carrasco from Bloemfontein in the quarterfinals but lost 2-1. However, Kgalalelo Phekonyane from Warriors had an impressive run, winning his quarterfinal match 2-0 against a Lesotho player. He continued his dominance, taking out all his opponents and ultimately claiming the Gold medal in the Junior Boys Category.
Behind-the-Scenes
A special mention goes to Tumisang Mpesi, who played a crucial role in ensuring the team's success. Despite being unable to participate in the tournament, Tumisang took charge of logistical arrangements, securing comfortable accommodations for the team at Mohau Bed and Breakfast. She also ensured the team had timely meals and refreshments, including water and fruits, allowing the players to focus on their game.
Our most humble player, Mr. William Rafube, also couldn't participate in the tournament as he took on administrative duties. He did a great job in ensuring that the team was well-fed, dressed, accommodated, and transported to and back safely. His behind-the-scenes work was invaluable to the team's success.
New Players Shine
Two new players, Mamothe Mokonyana and Tshegofatso P**e, made their international tournament debut and gave it their all. Although they didn't advance to the knockout stages, their participation was a great experience, and we look forward to seeing them in future tournaments.
Special Shoutout
A huge thank you and special shoutout go to 9eighteight Carwash for their continued sponsorship and belief in the Warriors players. Their support has been instrumental in our success, and we're grateful for their trust in our team's passion and hard work. To those behind the scenes at 9eighteight, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your tireless efforts and dedication.
The Lesotho tournament was a resounding success for the Warriors, with impressive performances from the men's, ladies', and junior teams. The team's dedication, skill, and sportsmanship were on full display, making it a memorable event for all involved.
