What a fantastic day it was! ☀🏑🫶

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this year's Family Day. With more than 250 participants in attendance and the weather gods clearly on our side, we enjoyed a truly memorable day filled with hockey, laughter, and great company.

This year's event was especially meaningful as we celebrated the club's 50th anniversary. It was wonderful to come together as one club family, reflect on our rich history, and honor several of our long-standing members whose dedication and contributions have helped shape our club over the years.

The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible. From the hockey activities and celebrations to the many conversations shared on and off the field, the sense of community and club spirit was felt everywhere.

A very special thank you goes to the Family Day organizing team for their hard work, dedication, and countless hours of preparation that made this event such a success. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who helped set up the event, supported activities throughout the day, and stayed behind to help with the breakdown afterward.

Events like these are only possible because of the commitment and enthusiasm of so many people. Your support, energy, and willingness to help make all the difference.

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. To relive some of the wonderful moments from the day, we invite you to browse our photo gallery on: https://app.twizzit.com/v2/media?album=103963&tinymce-field-name=.

🏑✨ Moments of History ✨🏑

Founded in 1976, Luxembourg Hockey Club has grown from humble beginnings into the vibrant international hockey family we know today 💙

Some people leave a truly lasting mark on a club’s history — and Nienke Ter Avest is definitely one of them.

Originally from the Netherlands, Nienke joined LHC in 2000 after spotting a flyer at ABN Amro calling for female players. At the time, opportunities for women in hockey in Luxembourg were still very limited. Together with just one teammate, she trained alongside the men’s team — helping lay the foundations for the growth of women’s hockey within the club 🌱🏑

Beyond the pitch, Nienke played a major role in shaping the future of LHC. Alongside then-president Robert Fischer, she helped launch the Corporate League, bringing new teams, players, and energy into the club.

She also worked closely with Lee Godfrey and the City of Luxembourg’s Service des Sports on one of the club’s biggest milestones: the development of our current pitch in Cessange. After visiting facilities in the Netherlands and carefully studying the best options, the field was finally completed in 2015–2016 — creating the home we enjoy today 🙌

During her 15 years of involvement, including as club president, Nienke helped build something far bigger than just a hockey club. From international tournaments and memorable trips abroad to social initiatives and legendary club events, she strengthened the spirit that still defines LHC today: hockey, friendship, and community 💫

Today, we proudly continue to build on the foundations laid by passionate people like Nienke.

For Diane, hockey has truly been a lifelong journey 💫 From starting hockey as a child in Germany to playing in Belgium’s Division d’Honneur and now representing Luxembourg internationally, the sport has always been at the center of her life.

Today, she coaches our U9 boys, plays with our women’s team, and continues to pass on her passion for the game to the next generation 🏑💙
