🆕 ONE Championship’s bantamweight Muay Thai title picture could soon force two PK Saenchai teammates to put friendship aside.

Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong says the winner of Nabil Anane vs Suakim Sor Jor Thongprajin on August 7 will face whoever comes through Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon’s first title defence against Yod-IQ Or Pimolsri on September 11.

That creates an intriguing possibility.

If Suakim upsets Nabil, and Yod-IQ dethrones Rambolek, two fighters from PK Saenchai Muaythaigym could be asked to fight each other for ONE’s bantamweight Muay Thai title.

Chatri says he would first ask PK Saenchai boss Sia Khaek for approval, but believes both men would accept if gold is on the line

“If you asked Suakim whether he wanted to fight Yod-IQ for the world title, he’d say yes. If you asked Yod-IQ the same question, he’d say yes too,” Chatri said.

“They might be friends or even train at the same gym. Before the fight you can be friends, like brothers.

“Once you step into the ring, it’s competition. After the fight, you can be friends again.”

The scenario is still several steps away.

Rambolek shocked Nabil in March to take the belt, and Yod-IQ must now beat him to become champion. Nabil, meanwhile, will be widely viewed as the favourite against Suakim – though Chatri insists the three-time Lumpinee Stadium champion has a real chance.

He also pushed back against criticism that Nabil’s success is simply down to his height.

“A lot of people think he’s only successful because he’s tall, but that’s not true,” Chatri said. “His Muay Thai fundamentals are outstanding.”

But he expects fireworks on August 7.

“I don’t think it goes three rounds,” Chatri said. “I think somebody gets knocked out.

“I’m 100 per cent convinced this fight ends by knockout.”

A Nabil win would put the former champion straight back on course for another shot at the belt he lost to Rambolek.

A Suakim win would make things far more complicated – and potentially far more personal.
