EUBAM Libya was delighted to co-host the Europe Day celebrations in Tripoli together with the EU Delegation. It was an honour to welcome many Libyan ministers and heads of institutions, as well as mayors of several Libyan cities, diplomats, UN officials, civil society representatives, and friends, to celebrate the Europe-Libya Partnership of Opportunities.

EUBAM Libya and Operation IRINI explore initiatives supporting Libyan maritime authorities

At the Headquarters of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI in Rome, Operation Commander Admiral Casapieri welcomed EUBAM Libya Head of Mission and EU Head of Delegation together with Ambassadors from EU Member States based in Libya as well as several like-minded partners. The exchanges focused on IRINI’s role within a changing regional and global environment, as well as on opportunities to deepen support to Libyan maritime authorities nationwide through training initiatives, capacity development, and closer cooperation.

Operation IRINI represents the European Union’s enduring maritime security engagement in the Mediterranean and remains an important contribution to Libya’s progress towards peace and stability. The operation plays a central role in addressing security risks at sea, ensuring compliance with international maritime law, and responding to hybrid threats, including those affecting critical infrastructure.

EUBAM Libya joined the EU Delegation and UNSMIL in the celebration of Libya’s Women’s Day. EUBAM shares the key message of the EU Delegation to Libya: “Women’s full and active inclusion across all sectors, including the political process and security, is essential to any country’s social and economic progress.”

Effective border management means full inclusion of women and men

Today on the International Women’s Day, we emphasize that effective border management is about much more than lines on a map or physical barriers. It is also about the people behind the operations and ensuring the full inclusion of both women and men. It is a fundamental requirement for success. Different perspectives lead to better problem solving, higher situational awareness, and more resilient systems.

Let’s stop viewing diversity as a goal and start treating it as the necessity it is.
