Freedom of speech is vital to a free people because it equates to freedom of thought. Totalitarian governments and authoritarian systems have always sought to curb this basic human right, which was wisely enshrined in the American Constitution by the Founding Fathers.
It is revealing to see it and the very principles upon which Western "democracies" are nominally established being dismantled in realtime on behalf of a distant foreign settler colonial state currently engaged in the ethnic cleansing and genocide of its indigenous population.
"If you want to see who rules over you, just look at who you are not allowed to criticize."
Regardless of whoever originally said this, it is nevertheless a truth that bears remembering.
May Allah Almighty bring an end to evil, oppression and injustice in this world by bringing back divine guidance and righteous leadership; and may He Almighty forgive and guide us all back to goodness.
Ameen.

In this powerful Ramadan episode, we explore what it truly means to make religion real—moving beyond the surface of ritual and practice to access the heart of Islam: surrender. Joined by Jonathan Abdus-Samad Nadeau, we discuss how the outer dimension of faith, while essential, must be rooted in an inner transformation that brings stillness, self-mastery, and genuine connection to Allah. We reflect on how unchecked emotions, reactive behavior, and intellectualized faith can limit spiritual growth, and how embodying patience, especially in moments of discomfort, is the real test of belief.
Throughout our conversation, we highlight the critical role of meditation—not as a trend, but as a daily practice of stillness and surrender that aligns with the essence of Islam. We share personal experiences and prophetic wisdom to emphasize that true transformation comes not from knowing, but from being. As Ramadan draws to a close, this episode is a reminder to reflect not only on how we fast and pray, but on how deeply we've cultivated inner awareness, discipline, and peace—the roots that make our faith real.

In this episode, we reflect on the deeper meaning of integrity as a state of spiritual wholeness—where our inner sincerity and outward actions align. Drawing on sacred teachings and personal experience, we explore how true growth comes not through knowledge alone, but through the trials that test and actualize it. The path to freedom, we learn, lies in overcoming the self and cultivating humility, patience, and submission to the Divine.
We also examine the importance of companionship on the spiritual path, and the need for both learning (ta'aleem) and disciplined training (tarbiyah) under guidance. Without purification of the self, knowledge can lead to pride rather than transformation. This episode invites us to move beyond theory and into embodied faith, walking with sincerity and purpose toward the ultimate goal: nearness to God.

Verily, Allah is to humanity truly Most Kind, Most Merciful.
Inna llāha bin-nāsi la-ra’ūfun raḥīm.
:: Holy Qur'an, Surah al-Baqarah, 2:143
Truly, the religion and the way is in humility and gratitude; and they who believe find themselves continually in awe and wonder of God's boundless grace, love, mercy, compassion and majesty.
May Allah Almighty make us of those whose hearts are continually moved and expanded by the manifestations of His divine will, benevolence and beauty.
