Success can be dangerous. For lawyers in particular, it can be hard to recognise when their greatest strengths can turn into their biggest liabilities. My thoughts on this were published today in Law.Com, https://www.rivierawellbeing.com/articles/blind-spots-in-the-law-why-great-lawyers-struggle-as-leaders/

Success is one of leadership’s trickiest traps—the higher we climb, the less we see. At my recent keynote, I explored some of these blind spots. Uncovering them is a lifelong journey. Thank you Monaco Daily News for your coverage. Thanks also to CREM - Club des Résidents Etrangers de Monaco for hosting the event.

What if your success is being quietly sabotaged… by you? Every leader has blind spots. Invisible to you, yet obvious to others. Even top leaders have blind spots—behaviours invisible to themselves but obvious to everyone else. Left unchecked, they can erode performance, damage relationships, and limit long-term impact.
Do you know what your blind spots are? And are you curious about what might be holding you back from leading at your best?
On 20 January, executive coach, former lawyer, therapist and entrepreneur Gavin Sharpe, co-founder of the Monaco Business Circle, will lead an interactive and engaging session exploring 10 Hidden Leadership Blind Spots: What Successful Leaders Miss. The session will combine insight, reflection and practical takeaways relevant to leaders operating at the highest levels.
Leadership is a journey, not a destination. When you learn to spot your blind spots, you unlock stronger leadership, more effective teams, and sustained success.
Please do come along. I’ll be sharing more about the Monaco Business Circle 2026 programme
Venue: CREM
Le Mirabeau, 1 Avenue Princesse Grâce, 98000 Monaco

Like it or not, most of us need to get comfortable with “sales.” Whether you’re in law, consulting, or another professional service, promoting what you do is part of the job. The challenge? Many of us resist the “sales” label — often for all the wrong reasons.
These days, I draw on my background in law, business, and psychology to explore how we can shift our mindset and approach sales in a way that feels authentic, not awkward.
The American Lawyer recently published my article on exactly this. While it’s written with lawyers in mind, the insights apply far beyond legal practice. I'd love to know your thoughts.
Ditch the Pitch: Rethinking Sales in Law - Riviera Wellbeing
Lawyers should no longer see themselves as trading on trust, intellect, and reputation. They’re trading relationships.

"𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿." Huge thanks to Monaco Tribune for the interview. It always feels self-indulgent to share media features, but Mark Linden captured the heart of what we’ve been building so well, I had to share.
When we launched this, we had no idea whether it would take off. But we believed in the idea — and we knew we had to give it a go. Like most things, a little risk (and the occasional failure) is just part of the journey.
Grateful to Irene Easun and the team at Savills for jumping in with us from the start and helping bring the vision to life. Happy to support Child CARE Monaco
