The Montserrat Football Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelvin Ponde as Head Coach of the Montserrat U-14 Boys National Team ahead of the 2026 CFU Boys U-14 Challenge Series in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Coach Ponde brings extensive experience in youth football development and has played an instrumental role in nurturing young talent across Montserrat for many years. His commitment to player development, strong leadership, and dedication to the growth of the game make him well suited to guide the next generation of national players.

This will be Coach Ponde’s first appointment as Head Coach of a national youth team. As he takes on the role, he will also be supported by the MFA’s Technical Consultant and coaching staff, allowing him to further develop his technical knowledge, coaching practice, and leadership experience in a competitive regional environment.

Coach Ponde has travelled ahead of the team to Punta Cana to participate in the CFU Head Coaches Workshop, providing an opportunity for further professional development alongside coaches from across the Caribbean. The full U-14 squad will join him later this week.

The MFA thanks the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) for its continued capacity-building efforts and its commitment to supporting the development of coaches across the region.

The Association is confident that under Coach Ponde’s leadership, the U-14 team will benefit from his knowledge, experience, and passion for developing young footballers both on and off the field.

We congratulate Coach Ponde on his appointment and wish him and the team every success as they prepare to represent Montserrat on the regional stage.

“It takes a village…” and our boys felt that today. 💚⚽

For our U14 Emerald Boys, every game is a chance to learn, grow and prepare for the opportunities ahead. But on a small island like Montserrat, finding regular competition at this age group is not always easy.

Today, our boys were reminded that they are never alone.

In true Montserrat spirit, members of our community came together to support our young footballers — pastors, teachers, police officers, community members and members of our Senior Emerald Boys, including national team players Sydney Mendes and Marcus Walters, stepped onto the field, not just as opponents, but as supporters, mentors and champions for the next generation of Montserrat footballers.

They gave our boys something that cannot be measured on a scoreboard — confidence, encouragement and the feeling that an entire island believes in them.

To everyone who laced up their boots and gave their time: thank you.

Thank you for investing in our boys. Thank you for helping them grow. Thank you for reminding them that when they wear the Montserrat badge, they carry the support of a whole nation with them. 💚⚽

This is more than football. This is community. This is the true Montserrat spirit. This is our future

Our U14 players have been putting in the work at training, showing commitment, effort, and a positive attitude every step of the way. To recognise that dedication, the Montserrat Football Association was delighted to reward them with a special token of appreciation, including brand-new football boots and shin guards.

The road to the tournament is competitive, and while not every player will make the final squad, every single one has played a role in this journey and remains an important part of the future of football in Montserrat.

Hard work deserves recognition, and we're proud to invest in the next generation of Emerald Boys. 💚🇲🇸
