The Montserrat Football Association was represented by Acting General Secretary, Ms. Thandie Williams, at the 1st Concacaf Grassroots Conference, held in St. Maarten from May 12โ13, 2026.
This historic conference marked the official launch of the Concacaf Grassroots Charter โ a strategic framework aimed at supporting Member Associations in the structured development, delivery, and long-term sustainability of grassroots football throughout the region.
The conference brought together General Secretaries and Technical Directors from across Concacaf to discuss the future of grassroots football and share best practices for developing the game at the community level.
Speaking on her first official conference in the role, Ms. Williams said:
โI am proud to have attended my first official conference in my capacity as Acting General Secretary of the Montserrat Football Association. It speaks volumes that this first engagement focused on the development of football at the grassroots level, because grassroots football represents the future of the game in Montserrat.โ
In the absence of a Technical Director, Ms. Williams noted that grassroots development will be one of the first initiatives to be advanced once the MFAโs technical staff is in place.
During the conference, she also had the opportunity to engage with other Member Associations on best practices across the region. She briefly met with Concacaf General Secretary Mr. Philippe Moggio and Concacaf Director of Member Services, Mr. Howard McIntosh, who expressed interest in the MFAโs plans and pledged their support to assist the Association moving forward.
The future of football in Montserrat starts at the grassroots.

The Montserrat Football Association (MFA) formally announces the resignation of Mr. Vincent Cassell from his role as President of the Association.
Mr. Cassell assumed the presidency of the MFA in 1996, following many years of dedicated service in various capacities, including that of Treasurer. He played a central role in guiding the development and administration of football in Montserrat for nearly three decades, both locally and within the wider regional and international football community.
In his parting remarks, Mr. Cassell expressed his sincere appreciation to his colleagues and staff:
โI wish to express my gratitude and thanks to the other members of the MFA Executive and the hard-working staff for their unwavering support and assistance during my tenure as President. I am truly grateful for the many opportunities to lead football interests across the numerous areas within the MFA and throughout the wider football fraternity, both at home and abroad. The experiences I have gained have been invaluable, and I will always cherish them.โ
The Montserrat Football Association also extends its heartfelt appreciation for Mr. Cassellโs years of service:
โWith gratitude and deep respect, we acknowledge the service of President Cassell as he steps aside from office. His leadership was marked by commitment, resilience, and a genuine love for the game and its people. Through both challenges and progress, he carried the responsibility of Montserrat football with dignity and purpose. His contributions have helped to shape a stronger foundation for the future, and for that, the Montserrat Football Association remains sincerely thankful.โ
Mr. Cassellโs resignation comes on the heels of health and personal reasons.
The MFA will announce the next steps regarding leadership transition in due course.
