Following a hugely successful campaign in Bolivia, where Matthew claimed double gold and made history as the first Maltese athlete to win an international singles tournament, while also becoming the first Maltese athlete to claim all three titles at an international tournament, Matthew has added another medal to his collection - this time a bronze in Mexico!
After Bolivia, Matthew and Gabriela travelled to Santo Domingo to compete at the Dominican International 2026. In the menโs singles, Matthew reached the quarter-finals, where he narrowly fell to USAโs Jacob Zhang. Gabriela also put in a strong performance, reaching the Round of 16 in the womenโs singles. The pair also teamed up in the mixed doubles, progressing to the quarter-finals before their run came to an end with a 16โ21, 15โ21 defeat.
With little time to rest, Matthew and Gabriela headed straight to Mexico to compete in the VI Mexico Future Series 2026. In the menโs singles, Matthew reached the Round of 32, while Gabriela enjoyed an impressive run in the womenโs singles, making it all the way to the quarter-finals. The biggest success, however, came in the mixed doubles. Matthew and Gabriela battled their way through to the semi-finals, securing a well-deserved bronze medal! ๐ฅ
