Confidence is not simply something a child is born with. It is something they develop through experience.

At the Bor International Training Camp in Serbia, our young judokas trained with unfamiliar partners, adapted to new situations and faced challenges outside their usual environment. Every grip taken, every attempt made and every moment of perseverance helped strengthen their courage, resilience and self-belief.

These lessons do not remain on the tatami. They help children approach school, friendships and everyday challenges with greater confidence and determination.

At Shirojudokwai, we do not only teach judo techniques. We create opportunities for children to grow.

🥋 Learning to Reflect, Learning to Grow

At Shirojudokwai, athlete development involves much more than learning techniques, improving fitness or winning contests. We also encourage our young judokas to reflect on their experiences and recognise their own progress.

Following our training camp in Bor, Serbia, Eliza prepared this lovely presentation describing the activities she completed, what she learned, and most importantly what she believes she could improve.

Being able to say, “I could have reacted faster” or “I could have attacked more during randori” demonstrates maturity, self-awareness and a genuine desire to learn. These qualities help children take responsibility for their development without being afraid of making mistakes.

Progress is not measured only by medals or belt colours. It is also found in the confidence to reflect honestly, recognise achievements and approach the next challenge with a positive attitude.

This is one excellent example of how a young athlete can turn a memorable experience into an opportunity for further growth. 👏 👏
