Sometimes it just feels like a dream 💙

Here is Alastair finishing his Freediver Course, 20m down, hanging on the line right next to the drop-off.

It’s 36°C in Malta and the surface of the sea is sitting at around 28–29°C, so whenever we find a thermocline, we’re more than happy to stay there for a bit 😅

A few seconds of cooler water, relaxing and taking in the view… Not a bad way to spend a morning 💙

What is that?! 🪱🩷

Honestly, we had to do some research before publishing this reel 😂 We were very lucky to come across this because it’s a pretty rare sight, not only in the Mediterranean but especially in coastal waters.

A few days ago, two of our students came across this massive glowing pink “worm” just floating below the surface.

And nope… it’s not a worm... 😁

It’s actually the egg mass of the diamond-shaped squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus) 🦑

This one was around 1.5 metres long!

Cool facts about this crazy creature:

🦑 The diamond-shaped squid is one of the most elusive marine creatures.

🌞 During the day it usually lives between 400–600m deep coming much closer to the surface at night, around 50–140m.

💪 The squid can reach around 1 metre in length and the maximum body weight recorded is around 30 kg.

🥚 These huge egg masses are rarely recorded in cold waters.

📍 Finding one around Malta and Gozo could actually be a clue that there is a spawning area for diamond-shaped squid in the area.

And this is exactly why we love getting in the water here.

Today, as we finished the very last dive of our Advanced Freediver Course, this beautiful ray appeared, gliding past us as if it had come to say goodbye.

A perfect ending to an incredible journey of learning, growth and connection with the ocean. Moments like these can't be planned, they're simply gifted.

Located in Gozo, Cathedral Cave, also known as the Blue Dome, is one of the most beautiful freediving sites in Malta. Its magical light, streaming through the huge gateway-shaped opening, creates an unforgettable atmosphere and some of the most stunning underwater footage you can capture. It's no surprise this is one of our students' favourite places to explore.

The cave is approximately 50 metres in diameter, with a ceiling reaching 15–18 metres high and an average depth of around 8 metres. Best of all, it's easily accessible with a short, shallow dive, making it suitable for many freedivers.

The surroundings of the cave are also spectacular with big boulders close to the drop off and plenty of marine life.

💙 Extra tip: Try singing once you're inside! The incredible acoustics make your voice echo through the cave like nowhere else.
