Maltese officials on the international stage 🇲🇹

Maltese sports officials are increasingly being appointed to officiate at major international events. The latest example comes from sailing, where David Dalli, a National Judge, has received a World Sailing appointment to serve as a member of the International Jury at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto.

Congratulations, David — another sign of the growing recognition of Maltese officials abroad.

Giochi del Mediterraneo Taranto 2026 - Sailing

A light sea breeze today. Race 1 got underway in 10–12 knots, easing to 5–8 knots for Race 2. The conditions suited our sailors and everyone got off to a solid start, with Mia Busuttil finishing 3rd in Race 1.

As expected the standard is very high, with several World and European champions in both fleets.

With five days of racing still ahead, consistency will be key, and so will a cool head.

Final Update from the Optimist European Championships held in Gdynia, Poland.
A total of 292 contestants from 42 different countries.
Overall Malta Ranked 14th out of 32 European Nations participating in these Championships.
Individually the following results were achieved by our team:
13th position - Ethan Stoyclen Kodjaazliev (Gold fleet)
36th position - Gianni Bianchi (Gold fleet)
42nd position - Jeremy Decelis (Gold fleet)
52nd position - Emily Camilleri (Gold fleet)
59th position - Thomas Giusti (2nd place Silver fleet)
84th position - Polina Chaplytska (Silver fleet)
101st position - Ella Grech (Silver position)

Team Malta is Heading to Poland.

A group of 7 athletes is making their way to Gdynia today to represent Malta at the Optimist European Championship. Led by coach Maurizio Bencic and accompanied by team leader Jake Mallia, the team will race between the 24th and 31st July 2026.

The Malta Sailing Federation wishes these young athletes fair winds - bring it home kiddos!
