Commonwealth Games and GSSE 2023 Medallist Judoka Katryna Esposito has been selected to join Malta and will be competing in the -48kgs Category.

Esposito was selected through the Universality Places programme assigned by the Olympic Games Tripartite Commission who has sole discretion on the choice of athlete but selection is based on the athlete’s international competitive experience, their technical level and the willingness to qualify for the Olympic Games by participating in the relevant qualifying events.

WE’RE IN THE FINAL! 💪🇲🇹👍

Our men’s team 🇲🇹 have reached the final of the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries after beating Gibraltar 🇬🇮 85-79

Malta 🇲🇹 stepped up their game when it mattered, winning the first two quarters 21-20 and 25-16 to head for half-time 10 point ahead. The third was also keenly-contested with Gibraltar trying to claw back the deficit but the Maltese team held firm to build a 13-point advantage – 68-55.

The game was not over though as Gibraltar upped their performance in the final set, coming within four points of Malta with four minutes left (74-70) but a Nathan Xuereb basket eased the pressure.

This was followed by two converted free throws from David Bugeja as Malta went eight points clear before sealing the win with two late Deguara free throws.

Deguara again played a prominent role in Malta’s win, scoring 25 points for Duncan Fenech’s team. He was followed by Kurt Cassar on 15.

Malta will play the winner of the second semi-final between hosts Andorra and San Marino in tomorrow’s final.

GIRLS GUNNING FOR GOLD! 🏀👍🇲🇹

Our women’s team 🇲🇹have also advanced to the final of the FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries after an emphatic 75-62 victory over Albania 🇦🇱 in their semi-final this evening.

The Maltese girls enjoyed a great start, winning the first set 28-13, going in for the half-time break 41-28 to the good. They remained on top 🔝 in the third, winning it 25-17 to start the final quarter with a 21-point lead. Malta controlled the tempo in the last quarter to win 75-62.

Amber Constance Melgoza contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds for Malta, while Kristy Galea and Steffi De Martino scored 15 each.

Malta will play the winner of the second semi-final between Norway and Cyprus in the final.

Victory for Malta! 🇲🇹 👍🏀

Malta 🇲🇹 obtained their first victory at the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries after defeating San Marino 🇸🇲 92-52 in their secons match in Andorra.

🙌 Led by coach Duncan Fenech, the Maltese team were better than their opponents, building a commanding lead by half-time – 46-17. San Marino 🇸🇲edged the third quarter 22-19 but Malta’s win was never in doubt as they prevailed in the last quarter, 27-13, to secure an emphatic win ✅

Samuel Deguara was Malta’s 🔝 scorer with 26 points.

Malta 🇲🇹 conclude their group commitments tomorrow (Thursday) against hosts Andorra at 19.30.

Two in a row and a place in the semis! 🏀👏

Malta 🇲🇹 made it two wins in a row in Group A after beating Georgia 🇬🇪 88-68 at the FIBA Women’s European Championship for Small Countries, currently being played in Kosovo.

The 2️⃣ match saw the Malta girls coming back strongly after losing the first quarter (14-23), overturning a nine-point deficit into a 10-point lead by the end of the third (30-15, 25-21).

Inspired by Steffi DeMartino’s scoring prowess with 30 points, Malta 🇲🇹 went to extend their advantage in the final quarter to stay on maximum points.

With this win, Malta have secured a place in the semi-finals 👍. They meet Cyprus 🇨🇾 in their final group match tomorrow (Thursday) at 18.00hrs.

Dejan Grech and Ryan Pisani made it into the finals of the World Doubles Championships defeating English Pair Luke Gilbert and Dom Cooney 7-4 in the semi finals.

The Maltese duo will now meet another English Pair Karl Sutton and Shane Thompson in the final. The latter defeated Clayton Castaldi and Gary Carr 7-5 in the other semi final.

The final appointment is now scheduled for tomorrow commencing at 11.30 am UK time and will be live streamed on the Ultimate Pool App.
