🏸 Local Badminton Action to Close Out 2026! 🇲🇹

From October to December 2026, Malta’s local badminton calendar is packed with opportunities for players of all ages to compete, develop, and finish the year on court.

The action begins on Sunday, 11th October, with the Assikura Doubles Rankings Tournament 1, followed by the Junior National Championships. The U13 & U17 titles will be held from Saturday, 31st October, to Sunday, 1st November, followed by the U11, U15 & U19 championships from Saturday, 7th, to Sunday, 8th November.

November continues with the Assikura Mixed Doubles Rankings Tournament 1 on Sunday, 22nd November, before the local calendar concludes on Sunday, 6th December, with the Assikura Singles Rankings Tournament 2.

Three months of rankings tournaments, National Championships, and plenty of competitive badminton await! 💪🏆

🏸🇲🇹 TEAM MALTA AT THE LI-NING ZAGREB YOUTH OPEN 2026 🇭🇷

A busy two days of international badminton in Zagreb for our Maltese youngsters, with strong performances, hard-fought matches and valuable experience. 💪🇲🇹

In girls’ singles, Jade Bartoli made an excellent start, defeating Hungary’s Tamara Kelo 15–10, 15–12 and Croatia’s Mara Biočić 15–3, 15–4 to progress. She now faces Türkiye’s Munise Erva Ceylan.

Julia Saliba bounced back from an opening defeat to beat Bulgaria’s top seed Izabela Ivanova 15–12, 9–15, 15–13, while Julia Galea responded strongly to her first match with a 17–15, 15–8 victory over Bulgaria’s Borisa Andreeva.

In boys’ singles, Ben Ciantar opened with a dominant 15–0, 15–0 win over Romania’s Marcu Eremita.

James Galea Boffa defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Nikša Đurić Ristić 15–5, 15–4 before losing to Switzerland’s top seed Timeo Rutschmann.

Matias Casaru was edged by Hungary’s Boldizsar Z***r 15–13, 15–4.

In U17 girls’ singles, Emma Bartoli and Monique Monika Vella gained valuable international experience against Hungary’s Anna Szorfi and Austria’s Rosie Yirou Wu respectively.

Assikura Singles Tournament – Ranking Tournament 1 🏸

🇭🇷 Zagreb, here we come! 🏸

Our players are ready to take on the Zagreb Youth & Under 17 Tournament, taking place from Friday 18th till Sunday 20th September 2026.

It will be another valuable opportunity to compete at international level, gain experience on court and represent Malta with determination and pride.

Leading the team will be Coach Edmond Abela.

U17: Emma Bartoli and Monique Monika Vella
Youth: Julia Galea, Julia Saliba, Dayle Bugelli, Matias Casaru, Jade Bartoli, Ben Ciantar and James Galea Boffa.

Three days of competitive badminton await, with every match offering a new challenge and another chance to learn, improve and perform. 💪🏸

Following the Assikura Singles Rankings Tournament, the latest Badminton Malta national rankings have now been updated, with several players making significant moves after their performances at the tournament.

Some of the standout changes include:

🏆 Matthew Abela – Open Men’s Singles winner, moving from #10 to #5
🔝 Matthew Galea – Open Men’s Singles runner-up, climbing from #4 to #2
🏆 Gabriela Skórkowska – Open Women’s Singles winner and a new entry at #14
⭐ Charlie Jia – an U15 player who won the U17 Boys’ Singles title and enters the U17 rankings at #14
🏆 Luca Saliba – U13 Boys’ Singles winner, moving from #4 to #2 in the U13 rankings
👑 Jade Bartoli – remains #1 in U13 Girls’ Singles and moves from #4 to #2 in U15

The match schedule for Sunday is now available.

⚠️ IMPORTANT:

1. All match times are approximate and may move forward or back depending on match duration and court availability.

2. Players in the first morning wave should simply be ready on time for their first match.

3. Players whose first match is later in the day should arrive at least ONE HOUR earlier, as the schedule may move faster than expected.
