Part 4/4 – Safety measures when learning to fly

Today I want to talk about the crucial role of sales in business success. We all know that sales generates revenue, which is essential for a business to survive, and that often makes sales targets to be an immense pressure on shoulders of entrepreneurs. Furthermore this pressure can grow as business opportunities become bigger, sometimes leading performance anxiety to be the cause of missed opportunities.

I like to integrate the "flying an airplane" analogy to my approach to sales. Three things a pilot must focus on to have a succesful flight; his aircraft, the weather, and traffic status on the runway. Similarly, successful entrepreneurs must ensure their business can deliver, understand the market context, and clarify deal terms before entering any negotiation.

Part 3/4 – Production Targets

If you want to succeed as an entrepreneur, you'll have to strive beyond the bare minimum, as it is essential for you to create value for your clients. Aiming for high standards of production is a mean to doing that.

Avoiding the temptation of offering the least just to get by, can be hard but is essential if you don't want to be in a vulnerable market position. Instead, set higher standards, by documenting your best intentions, and continuously improve those standards. Good aims for those standards are the themes of speed, quality, and cost at which you are delivering.

Committing to excellence will lead you to business success and give you reasons to be proud as you are attempting to gurantee value for your clients. It also helps reducing your everyday anxiety of obsolescence, replacing it with the hope and determination of becoming an industry leader.

Part 2/4 - The Keys to Organisation

Do you want to be an Entrepreneur!?

If Yes is still your answer and you are following on from the previous post…. Please be aware that I am still carrying the bad news that what you are trying to achieve is hard.
If someone is telling you that it is EASY, please know that he is lying to you, or he does not really know what he is talking about, especially if you are just starting out.

I am not here to bum you out though, or alienate all the messages that you may be receiving from Business Consultants or Experts. I am actually here to help you make sens of the information that you are receiving, because, as the saying goes “the devil hides in the details”… and I can’t express how applicable that saying is to running a business.

Big example: when I say to you that being an entrepreneur and managing a business is hard, I do not mean that it is complicated. Running a business should be simple and straightforward. It is hard because most of the activities requires a tremendous amount of your personal resources (Your time, energy, and money) and managing those require mindfulness and discipline, which are hard but not complicated...

Part ¼ - The Fundamentals of Business Organisation

Hey! Do you want to be an Entrepreneur!?

If YES is your answer…. Well, I have bad news for you. What you are trying to achieve is very hard. Unlike what you may have been seeing in a lot of attractive contents on the subject, it is not easy to manage your own business (Well, surely not in the beginning, after some well directed time and effort that may change).

As my role is to help you out on that, I want to talk a bit on the main hardship an entrepreneur has to overcome, which is the amount of things that you have to manage simultaneously. You have to know that; when you have a business everything tends to become important, and you will want to achieve everything,… issue is: everything also tend to come all at once.

I am real curious how you handle such a situation on your end.

On my side, two things that help me deal with what often seem like a mess are: to categorize those “things” in terms of objectives and visualize how I am going to achieve them.

For example, when I think of the day-to-day activities that I have to do in order to build and improve my business, I like to think of myself as a football manager who is in charge of a team… in order for me to lead my team to a win, there are three things that I simultaneously has to take care of:
1.Make sure that we score goals,
2.Ensure that our defense is solid, and
3.To realize the two points above: See to that my players play their part throughout the game.

I let you guess which one of the Business Activities Category I put in the image, matches with the above football manager’s objectives.

Not easy to do all those very important activites all at once, when you think about it… but hey!! Who said that managing a football team was easy!? 😅

Important thing here, it that this visualisation helps me focus, relax, and extract additional fun from endeavors that have to done and that, at times, can be very stressful.
