Dear Womesa Mauritius Members,

Greetings from Managing Team.

As we come to the end of May, WOMESA Mauritius reflects on a month dedicated to celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women.

Earlier this month, we marked the International Day for Women in Maritime under -18 May 2026,the International Maritime Organization (IMO) theme, “Policy to Practice”. This theme reminds us that true progress is achieved when commitments are transformed into meaningful action.

From a small group of dedicated women in 2011, WOMESA Mauritius has grown to an association of 47 members, working together to promote, support, and inspire women across the maritime sector.

Today, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, we also pay tribute to the mothers, mentors, leaders, and pioneers whose dedication, sacrifice, and guidance help shape stronger families, communities, and industries. Many of these remarkable women continue to make valuable contributions to the maritime sector while nurturing and inspiring future generations.

As we close this month, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering women in maritime and creating opportunities for those who will follow in our wake.

Each one represents a craft passed from one generation of maritime professionals to the next.

Behind every vessel safely secured at our jetties are the skilled hands that make maritime operations possible.

Sometimes the most essential work in our industry is also the least visible.

The Craft 🪢

🪢 Knot tying is more than just a rope technique. It is maritime craftsmanship.

At CNOI, WOMESA members were introduced to the Bowline knot — one of the most well-known knots used in maritime operations.

It may look simple.

But tying it properly requires:

✋ Skilled hands
🧠 Knowledge
🔁 Practice and experience

Across ports around the world, professionals perform this craft every day to ensure vessels are secure and operations remain safe.

Through activities like this, WOMESA Mauritius continues to support Training and Capacity Building, a key pillar of our 2022-2026 Strategic Plan.

The Question ⚓

⚓ Have you ever wondered what keeps a vessel in place when She berths?

When a ship arrives alongside a jetty, we usually notice the vessel, the cranes, the cargo operations.

But rarely do we notice the ropes.

Those ropes secure thousands of tonnes of steel.
They protect the vessel.
They protect the crew.
They protect everyone working around her.

And behind those ropes is something remarkable:

Yesterday, WOMESA Mauritius members had the opportunity to look closer at this essential maritime craft during our visit to CNOI.

WOMESA Mauritius a réuni ses membres hier, le 28 Novembre 2025, autour un dîner organisé au restaurant Eighty Eight à Bagatelle. L'objectif était de favoriser les échanges et le partage autour un buffet chinois. Ce fut également l'occasion de mieux faire connaître l'Association et d'encourager les nouvelles adhérentes à proposer des idées pour promouvoir la visibilité et le développement des femmes dans le secteur maritime.

Comme on le dit si justement, l'Association existe grâce à vous et pour vous, mesdames ! Alors, engageons-nous ensemble pour bâtir une nouvelle ère pour les femmes !
