Meet the Crown-of-Thorns Starfish.

Itโ€™s spiky.
Itโ€™s venomous.
It eats coral.
And despite the nameโ€ฆ itโ€™s not a fish. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Basically, itโ€™s the kind of creature you definitely want to admire from a respectful distance.

Found all around the Maldives, the Crown-of-Thorns is actually a fascinating part of the reef โ€” until there are too many of them. And those beautiful-looking spines? Absolutely not touchable. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

So what should you do if you spot one?

๐Ÿ‘‰ Donโ€™t touch it.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Donโ€™t try to be a hero.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Tell your dive guide or instructor.

Your hands will thank you later. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And speaking of things you normally only see from a distanceโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‹ Lara is coming out from behind the screen!

Usually busy answering your emails, organising bookings and doing approximately 728 other things at Divepoint, Lara will be at INTERDIVE 2026 in Friedrichshafen โ€” where you can finally meet her face to face.

And yes, sheโ€™ll be much friendlier than a Crown-of-Thorns. We promise. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸŽ Plus, weโ€™ll have special INTERDIVE offers and surprises for those visiting us in person.

So come and say hi, talk Maldives, meet Laraโ€ฆ

โ€ฆand please leave the Crown-of-Thorns alone. ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿคฟ

๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ’™ Sunday was International Whale Shark Dayโ€ฆ but at Divepoint, we believe these gentle giants deserve to be celebrated every day.

The worldโ€™s biggest fish, yet one of the most peaceful encounters you can experience underwater.

There is something truly humbling about sharing the ocean with a whale sharkโ€”watching it glide effortlessly through the blue, completely unbothered by our presence.

And here in the Maldives, we are lucky enough to call these waters home. ๐ŸŒŠ

Have you ever had a whale shark encounter? Tell us about it.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ’™

Who else is enchanted by the magic of macro photography? ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’™
Today at Maamunagaa Giri, we could have stayed forever watching this beautiful moray eel getting a full mouth clean-up! ๐Ÿ˜
Its tiny cleaner crew โ€” cleaner shrimp and cleaner wrasse โ€” fearlessly enter its mouth and remove parasites and leftover food. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ โœจ
A perfect example of the incredible relationships happening all around us underwater โ€” you just need to slow down and look closely.
The smaller the world, the bigger the wonder. ๐Ÿ’™
Who else could spend an entire dive watching this? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’™ Did You Know?
๐Ÿฆ There are over 600 species of Pistol Shrimps worldwide.
๐Ÿ  More than 120 Goby species live in partnership with them.
๐Ÿ’ฅ The Pistol Shrimp's claw is one of the fastest biological movements ever recorded.
๐Ÿ‘€ The Goby acts as the shrimp's eyes, while the shrimp provides the Goby with a safe home.
๐Ÿคฟ One of the best places to observe this fascinating relationship is right here in the Maldivesโ€”especially on the sandy reefs around Meedhupparu, where our Divepoint guides regularly introduce guests to these tiny "partners in crime."

Have you ever realised just how BIG a manta ray really is? ๐Ÿ’™

Standing face to face with a giant oceanic manta is one of those moments that completely changes your perspective.
With a wingspan reaching up to 7 metres (23 feet) and weighing well over 1,500 kg, these gentle giants are among the largest rays on Earth.

Yet, despite their incredible size, mantas are completely harmless to humans. They have no stinger, no venom, and no teeth capable of biting us. Instead, they gracefully glide through the ocean, feeding on tiny plankton with effortless elegance.

Watching a manta soar above you feels less like seeing a fish... and more like witnessing a bird flying underwater.

They remind us that true greatness doesnโ€™t need to be aggressive.
It can be graceful.
It can be peaceful.
It can leave you speechless.
This is one of those encounters youโ€™ll remember for the rest of your life. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ
