On 16 July 2026, the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC), ARC and UNICEF Maldives met with the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Hon. Abdulla Rafiu, to discuss the inclusion of Child Safeguarding in the Maldives National Sports Development Plan.
The meeting focused on expanding the policy's implementation across the Maldives through collaborative engagement with key stakeholders, strengthening safeguarding practices and promoting safe sporting environments for children throughout the country.
The discussion was constructive, with all parties exploring practical approaches to advancing child safeguarding through sport.

The Maldives Olympic Committee was represented by Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed at the official launch of the Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games (SEAPYG) in Metro Manila, Philippines on July 11 2026.
Designed to strengthen youth sport across the region, SEAPYG will bring together athletes aged 16 and under from Southeast Asia alongside invited National Olympic Committees from across Asia under the “Plus” concept. The Games aim to foster friendship, strengthen regional collaboration and provide young athletes with greater opportunities to compete internationally as they progress towards the highest levels of sport. The Maldives is proud to be among the invited nations for the inaugural edition, scheduled to be held in the Philippines in 2027.

Highlights from the Olympic Day Celebration in L. Kunahandhoo.
As part of the nationwide Olympic Day 2026 celebrations, the community of L. Kunahandhoo marked the occasion on 27 June 2026 with an Olympic Day Run followed by a Sports Festival, embracing this year's global campaign, "Let's Move – You Can Do This."
The celebration encouraged people of all ages to come together through sport and physical activity, reinforcing the message that movement is for everyone and inspiring healthier, more active communities.

Commonwealth Games Association Maldives conducted an Information Session for Team Maldives ahead of the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026, providing athletes and officials with key information on travel, accommodation, competition operations, Games services, team protocols and other essential preparations.
The session was led by Chef de Mission Fazna Jaleel and CGA Maldives Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, and attended by athletes, coaches and officials representing Athletics and Swimming as Team Maldives continues its preparations for the Games.
