2026 Maldives President's Challenge Cup 07/09/2026

The Cricket Board of Maldives is pleased to announce the commencement of the President’s Challenge Cup 2026, featuring the four best-placed teams from the recently concluded Maldives Premier League.

The competition brings together the leading players and teams from the annual flagship Premier League, providing a competitive knockout stage to determine the President’s Challenge Cup winners.

The opening day on 11 September will feature the 1st Semi-Final between Malé Sports Club and CBL at 8:00 AM, followed by the Eliminator between Anakee S.C. and New Star at 2:15 PM. The competition will continue with the 2nd Semi-Final on 12 September, before concluding with the Grand Final on 19 September.

All matches will be played at Ekuveni Cricket Ground, Malé.

The Cricket Board of Maldives extends its sincere appreciation to the President’s Office for its valued relationship with the Board and its support in strengthening the development of cricket in the Maldives.

We look forward to an exciting competition showcasing the country’s leading club cricketers.

Malé Sports Club Crowned 2026 Maldives Premier League Champions

The final round of the Maldives Premier League delivered outstanding action across Friday and Saturday at Ekuveni Cricket Ground, confirming Malé Sports Club as the 2026 Premier League Champions after finishing top of the table on 12 points!

Thanks to Abdul Razak Ibrahim the Minister of State for Sports, Fitness and Recreation as Chief Guest for Premier League Award ceremony.

Final Round Match Highlights:

CBL Sports v New Star: CBL Sports set an imposing 200/6 powered by an electric 88 from Player of the Match Ashan Yapa, before Lahiru Wickramasinghe's 4/14 helped dismiss New Star for 107 to seal a 93-run win.

MSHHSA v Malé Sports Club: A sensational bowling performance by Adnan Marikkar (4/13) restricted MSHHSA to 89, setting up a rapid chase led by Ismail Ali's explosive 62 off just 20 balls as Malé Sports Club secured an 8-wicket win to claim the title.

Anakee S.C. v Comets: Half-centuries from Eranda Sanjeewa (65) and Chamalka Sohan (52) propelled Anakee S.C. to 190/4, followed by a clinical bowling display led by Gayan Ranasinghe (3/16) to bowl out Comets for 69 and seal a commanding 121-run victory.

🏏 Shafraz Jaleel appointed Maldives U16 Boys Head Coach

The Cricket Board of Maldives is pleased to announce the appointment of Shafraz Jaleel as the new Head Coach of the Maldives U16 Boys National Team.

Shafraz was appointed yesterday by CBM President Mohamed Faisal and CBM Vice President Ahmed Ishaq.

Having represented Maldives cricket on the international stage at multiple levels, Shafraz brings valuable experience and insight to the role. He will now focus on galvanising the next generation of players while working closely with entry-level coaches to develop a tailored process for player recruitment and retention.

2026 Maldives Premier League | Weekend Match Round-Up 🏏

A weekend of thrilling high scores, record-breaking knocks, and last over finishes at Ekuveni Cricket Ground in Malé.

Friday, 28 August

Anakee S.C. delivered a solid performance to defeat New Star by 63 runs, led by an impressive 58 off 39 balls from Player of the Match Sampath Dinesh. Later in the afternoon, CBL Sports put on a batting masterclass, piling up an enormous 267/5 powered by an explosive 85 off just 23 deliveries from Adam Nasif to secure a comprehensive 194-run victory over Comets.

Saturday, 29 August

Malé Sports Club continued the dominant batting trend on Saturday morning, posting 242/5 on the back of a solid century from Ismail Ali (114 off 47 balls) before bowling out New Star for 70 to seal a 172-run win. The weekend concluded with a thriller as MSHHSA defended 147 in a tense contest ag*inst Anakee S.C., edging out a dramatic 2-run victory with Mabsar Abdullah earning Player of the Match honours.

🏏 Hussain Arif Riza appointed Maldives Men’s National Team Manager

The Cricket Board of Maldives is pleased to announce the appointment of Hussain Arif Riza as the new manager of the Maldives Men’s National Cricket Team.

Arif Riza was appointed today by CBM President Mohamed Faisal and CBM Vice President Ahmed Ishaq.

A popular domestic cricketer for over 30 years, Arif Riza brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.

CBM President Mohamed Faisal Re-elected as ACC Associate Director.

Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM) President Mohamed Faisal has been elected as an Associate Director of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for a second term.

The election took place at the recently concluded ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Bangkok.

Faisal’s re-election reflects his continued contribution to Asian cricket and his engagement in the development of the sport across the region.

He is also currently serving his third term as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Non-Voting Representative for Asia, further strengthening the Maldives’ representation within regional and international cricket bodies.
