Farewell Message to the Handball Fraternity

Dear Members of the Handball Fraternity,
As I conclude my five years of service as Chairperson of the Lilongwe Urban Handball Committee, I would like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.
It has been an incredible journey of dedication, teamwork, and shared passion for the growth of handball in Lilongwe District and Malawi as a whole. Together, we have worked tirelessly to elevate the sport, strengthen structures, and create opportunities for players, coaches, and clubs to thrive.

I am especially proud of some of the notable achievements we accomplished during this period. These include the introduction of the “Let’s Play Handball” initiative, implemented in communities and schools in partnership with My Community My Responsibility, which helped bring handball closer to the grassroots and inspired young people to actively engage in the sport.

We also successfully facilitated the distribution of handballs to schools, improving access to equipment and encouraging wider participation among learners. In addition, we organized a special handball development launch event, which brought together stakeholders and created renewed visibility and excitement for the sport.
Another key milestone was the Solidarity March, which united players, coaches, and supporters in demonstrating our shared commitment to the growth of handball and raising awareness of the sport within the district.

We also proudly witnessed the launch of handball activities at Kamuzu Barracks, a significant step that strengthened institutional participation and contributed to the expansion of the sport within structured organizations.
These achievements, among many others, would not have been possible without your commitment, sacrifice, and belief in the vision we shared.

To the committee members, thank you for your tireless dedication, guidance, and leadership throughout this journey. To the club leaders, thank you for your collaboration and unwavering support in building strong teams and nurturing talent. To the athletes, you are the heart of the game—your discipline, passion, and resilience continue to inspire us all. To the coaches, thank you for shaping skills, building character, and pushing the game forward. And to all friends and supporters of handball, your goodwill and encouragement have been the foundation of our progress.

Most importantly, I am grateful for the friendships we have built along the way. Beyond the sport itself, it has been an honor to serve alongside such passionate and committed individuals.
As I step aside from this office, I do so with pride in what we have achieved and confidence in the continued growth of handball in Lilongwe and Malawi. I remain fully committed to supporting the sport in any capacity.
Let us all continue to support the new committee as they take forward this important work. We will always be available to support, guide, and contribute whenever called upon.

Thank you once again for the trust, support, and unforgettable journey.

With sincere appreciation,

SKY IS THE LIMIT.
MCMRO LAUNCHED HANDBALL IN SCHOOL

My Community, My Responsibility Organization, in partnership with the Lilongwe Handball Committee, has launched the "Let's Play Handball" initiative in primary and secondary schools. The program aims to promote mental health awareness and wellness among young people in the district.

The launch ceremony, which marked the introduction of handball in schools, drew participation from 12 schools across the district. As an often-overlooked sport in the country, the association seeks to leverage the initiative to encourage children to prioritize physical and mental well-being.

According to Brian Khembo, Director of My Community, My Responsibility, "Handball has the potential to inspire positive change, and we're committed to investing effort into developing the sport."

The organization is thrilled with the initial response to the program. Despite handball being a relatively low-profile sport, the association is confident that its vision will be realized through this tournament.

The organization donated handballs worth over K600,000 to each participating school, promoting the game from the grassroots level

The Lilongwe District Handball committee plans to organize junior tournaments for primary and secondary schools early next year. In the ceremonial tournament, Mvama Primary School emerged as champions in the girls' category, while M'buka Primary School won the gold medal in the boys' category. Philipina and Crazmatic were crowned champions in the boys' and girls' categories in secondary schools, respectively.

Thank you all for your love and support.
