NCHE SUCCESSFULLY HOLDS TRACER STUDY TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

Last week, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), with support from the World Bank through the Skills for A Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project, successfully concluded the first phase of a three-phase Tracer Study Training Workshop held from 10–12 June 2026 at Chikho Hotel in Mponela, Dowa District.

The workshop brought together representatives from public and private higher education institutions across Malawi to strengthen their capacity to conduct graduate tracer studies and utilise the findings to support evidence-based decision-making.

Officially opening the workshop, NCHE Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ignasio Jimu, underscored the importance of tracer studies in understanding graduate outcomes, employability, skills relevance, and labour market needs, noting that the findings are critical for improving higher education programmes and informing policy decisions.

Over the three days, participants explored tracer study fundamentals, methodologies and sampling procedures, questionnaire development, and the Malawi Tracer Study Master Questionnaire, including how institutions can adapt it to their specific contexts.

The training is part of ongoing efforts under the SAVE Project aimed at strengthening data-driven quality enhancement and ensuring that higher education remains responsive to labour market demands and national development priorities.

Accreditation is the process that comes after registration and applies to both public and private higher education institutions.

Accreditation covers both the institution and the programmes it offers.
