Airtel Money Tola Promotion Continues to Transform Lives as Three More Customers Win K5 Million

Airtel Money has continued to put smiles on the faces of its customers after awarding three more lucky winners K5 million each in the third draw of the ongoing Airtel Money Tola Promotion.

The latest winners are Kenneth Simfukwe, a farmer from Chitipa, Richard Kankhuni, originally from Lunzu but currently based in South Africa, and Yamikani Lihoma, a Form Three student at Mulanje Mission Secondary School in Mulanje.

Speaking after learning of his win, Simfukwe said the K5 million prize will help him fulfil his dream of building a house for his family.

“I am very happy to have won. This money will go a long way in helping me build a house and improve the welfare of my family,” he said.

For Lihoma, the prize comes as a major boost to his education and entrepreneurial ambitions. The young student said he plans to use part of the money to support his schooling while investing the remainder in a small business.

“This is a life-changing opportunity for me. I want to use the money for my education and also start a small business that can help me secure my future,” said Lihoma.

Commenting on the draw, Airtel Malawi Head of Marketing Joshua Sichinga said the promotion continues to bring joy to customers across the country as people from different walks of life emerge as winners.

“The draw brings a lot of joy as people continue winning in the Tola Promotion. We are happy that customers from different economic backgrounds are winning. The Tola Promotion is our way of sharing with our customers the rewards of using Airtel Money, and we want to see them improve their lives,” said Sichinga.

The father of the late Memory Kamange, Cliff Kamange, told the High Court’s Criminal Division today that he accessed his daughter’s call log through Airtel Malawi after reporting her disappearance to police, a move that helped investigators trace her missing phone and the arrest of the accused person.

Kamange, the second prosecuting witness, testified that the log revealed the device was in the hands of Alufandika Nkhwazi, who later told the court as the third witness that he had bought the phone from the accused, Malenga.

Nkhwazi, a charcoal and onion seller, said Malenga offered him the phone for K200,000 before settling at K160,000, which he agreed to pay in installments.

Malenga is facing charges of r**e, robbery, and the murder of Memory. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Memory was r**ed, robbed, and murdered, and later buried to conceal evidence at Botanic Garden in Area 18, Lilongwe.

The case, being prosecuted by Senior State Advocates Luckia Jafali and Papano Kamwendo from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, has been adjourned by Justice Kondwani Banda to June 30 and July 1–2, when more witnesses are expected to testify.

The accused is being represented by lawyers from the Legal Aid Bureau, Gift Somba, Levison Seyani, and Taona Banda.

Court Hears First Witness in Malenga Murder Trial

The State yesterday amended the robbery charge against 48 year old murder suspect Phillip Malenga, shifting it from Section 301 of the Penal Code to Section 301(2) to align with the allegations he faces.

Presiding Judge Kondwani Banda of the High Court’s Criminal Division in Lilongwe re read the revised charge to Malenga, who is accused of committing robbery at Botanic Gardens, Area 18, Lilongwe, on February 11, 2026, the same day 30 year old Memory Kamange was murdered. Malenga has pleaded not guilty.

The first prosecution witness, Chisomo Maseko Kamange, mother of the deceased and a teacher at Kabwabwa Primary School, testified that her daughter, who had battled epilepsy for 21 years, was introduced to Malenga in January 2026 as a traditional healer. Despite parental warnings, she said, Memory continued taking herbal remedies from him.

On the day of the alleged crime, Kamange told the court, her daughter left home to visit a commercial bank but never returned. Her phone was unreachable, prompting Kamange to report the matter to police. Investigations later revealed that Malenga had sold Memory’s mobile phone, and call logs confirmed he had been in contact with her on the day she disappeared.

The State, represented by prosecutors Papano Kamwendo and Lukiya Jafali from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, is presenting a second witness, father to the deceased.
