Malawi Kickboxing Association - MAKBA

Hopeson Notice defied all odds and defeated Limbani Rotcha in a seven rounder semi professional Kickboxing bout which headlined Malawi National kickboxing championship in Zomba yesterday.

Rotcha had previously stated he would put Hopeson Notice in a coffin after knocking him out. But it was different on the ground , Hopeson Notice knocked out Rotcha in round number 7 with a brutal finish.

The championship was attended by the following clubs :

Thondwe Kickboxing
Tianjin kickboxing
Zomba kickboxing factory
Bangwe kickboxing
Blantyre Youth Center kickboxing
Nyambadwe kickboxing
Kachere kickboxing.

The event funded by Malawi National Council of Sports was graced by Acting Chief Executive Office for Malawi National Council of Sports , Ivy chinangwa.

A mammoth crowd patronized the event.

Below is the breakdown of winners in each category:

Under 70 kgs category:

1. Dan Rotcha - Thondwe Kickboxing -gold 🏅
2. Wongani Gondwe - Mubas kickboxing - silver 🏅
3. Hydrant Kabitchi- Zomba kickboxing factory - bronze 🏅
Under 60 kgs category
1. Dan Disi - Mubas Kickboxing - gold medal
2. Bahat chakondwa- Bvumbwe kickboxing - silver medal
3. Alick John - Lilongwe kickboxing - bronze medal
Over 71 kgs category

1. Evance wandika - Lisanjala kickboxing - gold medal
2. Christopher Kamimba- BYC- kickboxing - silver medal
3. Godfrey chisala- Tianjin kickboxing - bronze medal

Female category

1. Sakina Ibrahim - Lilongwe kickboxing - gold medal
2. Luthando Sikwese - Mzuzu kickboxing - silver medal

The Association will leverage on the national championship to select National team to face Zimbabwe and Mozambique on 6th July independence day international kickboxing tournament to be staged in Malawi and the African Kickboxing championship to be staged later this year.

Our National Championships will be held in Zomba on 11 January 2026.

Our National Team has participated in WAKO African Continental Championship that was held in Benoni, Johannesburg, South Africa from 9th to 12th of December 2024 with 4 athletes and 1 official. Following athletes has won 5 bronze medals in total:

Bashil London Tambala (Bronze Medalist - Point Fighting & Light Contact -63kgs)

Emmanuel Namate (Bronze Medalist - Point Fighting & Light Contact -84 kgs)

Mike Mando (Bronze Medalist - K-1 Rules -71kgs)
