Zomba City Council on Friday, 12th February 2021 hosted Zomba Urban Fifa/FAM Under 17 team where issues of Covid-19 were discussed in relation to football.

The City's environmental health officer Gomezgani Nyasulu said the youngsters need to know the risks of continued playing of community football in the wake of government ban of all sports activities due to the rapid spread of the pandemic.

"Sporting activities were suspended by government and these youngsters have to comply with the preventive guidelines that were gazetted in order to fight this pandemic. According to questions that these youngsters raised during this workshop, we have also noted that there are many misconceptions about Covid-19 which needs awareness in our communities, " Nyasulu said.

Speaking on behalf of the players, Ibrahim Mkwate hailed Zomba City Council for the workshop. He said as youngsters they have a greater role to play in the fight against the pandemic by complying to all the preventive measures.

It has not been a good start for Zomba Urban team in the on-going first round of Eastern Region Fifa/FAM Under-16 League.

Currently, we have played three games, won one and lost two. However, the youngsters have promised to die a little this weekend as they travel to Phalombe on Saturday, 25 January 2020.

However, all is not lost as there are many games to play and improve their performance.
