Last weekend we were on a regular dive, with our team of extremely experienced divers, when Natalie saw what she thought was trash floating in the distance. She went over to collect it, and found this amazing, and extremely rare free-floating colony of small anemone like creatures known as a Pyrosome. 4-17-2016 Extremely Rare Pyrosome Sighting The team on this dive are extremely experienced, with over 20,000 dives around the world logged between them, but no-one had ever seen a pyrosome before!

After years of work...IT IS OFFICIAL! Akumal Bay has been decreed an "Área de Refugio para la Protección de especies Marinas" (a refuge area for the protection of marine species.)
