Dorado (mahimahi) are known for their ability to rapidly change color between gold, green, and blue. This color change is believed to be a form of communication, influenced by variations in mood, stress levels, and environmental factors. This dorado was grey when it came through to check us out, and turned bright yellow when it was shot. They are prolific in our waters, and with one of the fastest growth rates out there, they are one of the most sustainable choices as a target fish.

Yellowfin Tuna - these aren’t your average fish. These pelagic fish are known for their impressive speed – reaching up to 40 mph! Schools of Yellowfin offer exciting visual encounters, but their keen eyesight necessitates a strategic approach with proper camouflage. Landing one requires both skill and power.

Yellowfin tuna are known fighters that take deep dives, so ensure you have a powerful speargun and prioritize a precise shot placement behind the head, just above the gill plate for a clean and ethical catch. The reward? Beyond the exhilarating battle, Yellowfin tuna are a sustainable choice and prized for their delicious, sushi-grade meat.

Yellowfin Tuna are resident species here in Los Cabos, but their best season is July through January.
