There are rare speleothems that develop only under very specific conditions within flooded caves. Their origin still raises questions among scientists, but they are believed to form through the slow precipitation of calcium carbonate at the interface between water and air, where subtle changes in water chemistry gradually shape these delicate structures over hundreds or even thousands of years.
